My service records show that I once used a Mobil-1 M-106 filter on my VX, which is larger than the M-104. But, I've been using the M-104 since it had 3000 miles on it, and never had any engine/oil issues, so I don't think I would gain any advantage from using a larger filter. If you race, go off-road a lot, or otherwise abuse your oil, it may help. As with most things, it's quality over quantity.

Well, when it comes to "filter area", there's just no substitute - bigger IS better, PERIOD! I for one have ALWAYS been of the opinion that if you can have extra filtering capacity for your motor oil with almost ZERO effort, then why WOULDN'T you? A quick check on Amazon shows ZERO $ difference between an M1-104 and an M1-105, and a whopping .97 "upcharge" for an M1-106 (which *I* did not/DO not know if that one will fit the VX). On every Chevrolet I've ever owned that ran a PF-25, I've upgraded to a PF-35 for the extra filtered area - talk about "cheap insurance"...
