    Where is PCV valve?

    I have heard this more than a couple times (changing PCV valve with oil change). I'm less than mechanically inclined. Would someone briefly describe or provide a pic where the PCV valve is located. I'd like to start doing this replacement.

    It super easy, takes less than 5 mins, even I can do it!
    It's under your plastic engine cover, front driver's side.

    See that little square part of the cover sticking out about 1". It's pointing toward the driver's side. It's directly UNDER that.

    HOW TO CHANGE PCV VALVE:

    • Slowly lift up the plastic ENGINE COVER.

    • It's held on by 4 rubber grommet things that fit on small metal poles on the engine.

      Often the rubber things will remain stuck on the metal pole, but just lift them off and reseat them back in the plastic cover.

    • PCV is "L" shaped, one arm is attached to a black hose with a hose clip.

    • Release the hose clip and wiggle hose OFF the PCV.

    • Wiggle the other arm of the PCV upward from the engine. It can be very hard to get out, sometimes I use pliers.
      It's OK to destroy it with pliers but you won't be able to see if it rattles, And don't get any pieces in the open crankcase. Also, the black rubber grommet may stick to it.

    • Can reuse the grommet if it's in good shape, if dried out - replace it.


    • Shake the PCV to see if you hear any RATTLE...
      RATTLE = GOOD....No rattle= NOT GOOD.

    • Regardless, replace it.

    • I put a little engine oil on the plastic part that goes into the crankcase, makes it easier to seat it flush on the grommet.


    • Reattach hose and hose clip to new PCV.


    • That's IT !

    Many owners use the Purolator brand (Mfr #: PV1061)-
    It used to be all black plastic with the sharp edges like pictured below, but 2 years ago they changed to the brown/blue model.

    If your old PCV is that RUST BROWN COLOR, with black, (like in JAMAS' picture) it's an OEM (as best I can determine).
