i should have some serious protection for my rear 1/4's and taillights, which is where everyone seems to damage on escalator.

I think it would be much harder in a VX due to the shorter wheelbase...there is a spot where you would be nearly vertical in a short wheelbase vehicle.If a stock H3 can do it, with the right spotter and right line, a VX could too.
