Hi Rowhard, Thanks for your quick reply and help.

I thought I was in good shape to complete this task but I realized that the list of wires and colors that I posted doesn't seem to be right. Like this one: "Car Radio Battery Constant 12v+ Wire: Pink" ... There is no pink wire! The only pink wire is the one with the CD units (I removed the CD unit because it is broke).

As for the custom plug you build, thanks a lot but I cut off the OEM radio plug! I was going to use butt connectors to fit the wires to the new radio plug. Unless you know a way to fix this, I can't use it I guess.

Here is the radio manual http://kenwoodusa.com/UserFiles/File...s/kdcmp242.pdf

I'm trying to match these (see page 16)

    Power control/Motor antenna:
    TEL mute wire:
    Front Left Speaker -:
    Front Left Speaker +:
    Front Right Speaker -:
    Front Right Speaker +:
    Rear Left Speaker -:
    Rear Left Speaker +:
    Rear Right Speaker -:
    Rear Right Speaker +:
    Ignition :
    Baterry:
    GRound:

    It doesn't mention the tweeters?

What a puzzle. Thanks again for helping!

    Michael

Oh, I didn't make it. it came with the Jensen unit I bought from twistedsymphony.

I did it the same way your doing it when I changed out the OEM for the same reason, broken CD changer. Did that a couple of years ago.
Greetings, Earthling. We come in peace... Never mind "Paris to Dakar", the VehiCROSS looks ready for the Martian desert.

    Harness Description

Hi all, long time since the last post on this thread but I have some helpful info. The first picture/diagram is correct, but trying to read it on my phone was making my eyes bleed so here's the description. The description in post #5 does not match my VX.

First thing to note: there is no ground wire in the stock head unit harness. I de-pinned the ground from my aftermarket head unit and attached it to one of the mounts behind the radio.

I would recommend buying the Metra 70-7712 harness adapter (only $10). This way you don't have to hack up your harness in your car and rewire it - harness is short and it's a pain.

Wiring - as you look at the harness in the car with the clip facing up, these numbers correlate left to right:
    Top row:
    1 - Left Rear Positive - Red
    2 - Right Rear Positive - Blue
    3 - Illumination - Red/Green
    4 - 12v Ignition/ACC - Red/Blue
    5 - N/A
    6 - Left Front Positive - Blue
    7 - Right Front Positive - Green
    Bottom row:
    8 - Left Rear Negative - White
    9 - Right Rear Negative - Blue/White
10 - N/A - (On the adapter this is the ground to de-pin and attach to chassis)
    11 - Lighting - Green/Red
    12 - Power Antenna - Orange
    13 - N/A
    14 - 12v Battery/Memory - Red/White
    15 - Left Front Negative - Yellow
    16 - Right Front Negative - Grey
