Here's what I would do with this price tag:





You could get rid of the blu-ray drive and up ram to 12gb. Or get rid of blue ray and go for an Intel X-25 SSD...OR BOTH...
get a mac, its better anyways.

Yeah, x2 on what everyone said. Dubster, me thinks its time you delve into building your own PC.

I'm also not much of an HP PC fan, nor am I an AMD fan. May would argue with me on that, but I stick with Intel personally. Ask away with questions, I think we all here can get you a decent machine for what you want to spend.

First off those, please give us your main priorities when it comes to PC usage, something like this:

1) Watching Porn on the Internet
2) Keeping my post count high on VX.info
3) Playing "Leisure Suit Larry" 8 hours a week
4) Editing video
5) Listening to MP3s
6) Ripping DVDs
7) Etc, etc...

Something like that would help us decide what you would require.

Seriously? I don't wanna get into this debate, but imo, while Macs are ok, they are more expensive and less 'customizable' and in general, dumbed down too much for my taste. Back in the day you "needed" a Mac to do anything serious when it came to creativity (photo editing, video editing, sound prod, etc) but nowadays there ain't anything a Mac can do that a good PC can't. The only thing you get with a Mac nowadays is that warm fuzzy feeling you get whenever you do something the rest of the world does...like buy an i-Pod or Prius or whatever the current 'fad' might be. Plus, Macs don't come in black, afaik.
