newsflash- subarus come with a huge hood scoop and a SQUARE wing, doesnt get any more ricer than that...

sorry wormgod, its nothing personal, i just read the subaru forums because im considering a subaru as my next vehicle and all of them have their heads so far up their own arses that they are gonna need windows put into their stomachs so they can see where they are walking...
pb, they would be what you call Elitists. Not all, but MANY (not as bad as BMW forums.... you should check THOSE out sometime... WOW). Many Evo and STi owners tend to put themselves on a pedestal even over Lancer and WRX owners. THAT is sad. Like I said, not all, but enough to take notice, as you have. I fall into the class of folks who tend to stay in the "sleeper" class. Bare bones looking on the outside, top secret on the inside. My WRX is solely for DD use so there is nothing special to brag about. Even autoX last year it was fairly close to stock. Fairly.

I will defend the scoop at least by saying it is fully functional, heh. Until they come with front mounts, those scoops will remain. As for the wing.... NO wing, small or large, is functional for everyday use. No clue why the manufacturer even offers them, other than putting another $800 on the sticker for it.

Coastie, no offense was offered in your direction. Whether you asked for opinions or not, people will offer them for the sake of learning/R&D, especially since you are planning some pretty major hack-and-slash work. The last thing any VX owner wants to see is someone take a saw-zall to a VX and then step back and go "whoops". You don't appreciate the opinions expressing concern, yet you praise and accept the opinions that merit your own opinion about your project? You won't learn that way. Open your mind up man. ALL opinions are being offered to you, free of charge, from people that know these vehicles inside and out, and you should be grateful enough for that much. Nobody wants to see a VX butchered just for the sake of looking a baja/rally vehicle. Like Gussie said, it would probably be far more worth all this kind of time, trouble, and money to do some actual mechanical/performance work to BE a baja/rally instead of just candy coating it.

I say rice because "I" consider candy coating to be just that. Scoops, wings, decals, hood pins, intakes (in most cases), chrome dressing.... basically fluff, on every day vehicles. Stuff with no real purpose or functionality other than standing out to get some attention. And you know, that's still fine if that's your thing, but I would rather see you put this effort into maybe some solid offroading applications, since that appears to be your original focus. All this money spend on "dressing" could add up to some pretty solid suspension or skid plates. See what I'm saying?

But hey, like you said.... it's your VX. I only offer my thoughts as tools for your R&D. Better to offer them now before you have a gaping hole in your roof.

Seriously though, no offense. I have crap on my VX that I am sure people don't agree with, so I know your situation. Don't let it stop you though. Do what you are gonna do, but know that any opinions are there for you to either take into consideration or to ignore.

The best part about me is, I can take the crap you all can dish out. Even Coastie's sarcastic reply (which still really made no sense with his sad attempt pic comparisons). Just remember, "RICE" is a personal state of mind. An aesthetic. I say po-tay-to, you say po-tah-to.

And you all know what.... those leather shift boots look even better 5 years later. STILL use 'em and they STILL look good! (I do wish they were offered in a darker gray or black though.... to match my Gucci bag)

ya i know that there are bad apples in every group it just seems to be very strong with the subaru crowd

I fall into the class of folks who tend to stay in the "sleeper" class.

i agree, sleeper is the way to go when your dealing anything that people view as ricer, otherwise your just asking for trouble...but thats a style decision, not a poor choice in vehicle

I will defend the scoop at least by saying it is fully functional, heh. Until they come with front mounts, those scoops will remain.
ya, i understand the meaning behind the hood scoop...but i just find it ironic that they razz everyone else on the road for having a scoop
    its nothing personal wormgod...
if you have payed attention, i love the subaru vehicles...i just dont understand the high and mighty mindset...
