Up Up And Away!

I just picked up the keys to our new house! w00t!

The best part is, my garage has AT LEAST 6-8"s more clearance than my current garage, even with my roof rack and spare on top, which means.......

I'M LIFTING!

Yeah, we are stoked. We saved and saved and hunted and hunted, and took the plunge at the best time. Needless to say, I'm gonna be broke for the next 12 months, but hell, I don't have to save for a house anymore!!!

All that is TBD of course. I will probably do a lift like the one Clint has, which I think is about 2"s. Then I will see if I can fit 265s underneath, I don't know if I can fit 285s, but 265s should be fine. And yes, BFG M/Ts are my choice, hopefully, I can get the new style.

Damn, I got my work cut out for me, and I better get my credit card warmed up.

I just threw in the 912's and fit 32"s so you should be able to do the same with your lesser offset... if you can stand the loss in performance anyway!

I don't necissarily mind the loss of pick up per se, but fuel efficency loss will be annoying, and I am worried about the whole CV boot issue as well, which I'm sure will rear its ugly head shortly after I go up...

32s end up being 265s or 285s????

'stead of warming it up, do yourself a BIG favor, cut it up. Double up on those mortgage payments...one toward principal only. You'll be shocked how quickly you build equity. More fun to spend like a sailor, when you got it to spend without the 18 or 20% hit.:cool: Congrats....you now get to vote in a Jeffersonian Democracy

Yeah, I know. I'm careful these days. After coming out from 20k+ in cc debt, I will never dive that deep again. My buy-now, pay-later days are history, for the most part....

Thats AWESOME man. Congrats on the pad. Thats got to be a good feeling. I am ready to help you lift when you want, you really dont even need help but I can hand you tools or something. Your truck is gonna look great lifted with tires.

I went through the same issues when I bought my house a few years ago. My VX would fit in the garage easily with a lift, but it might have issues clearing the raised garage door. Taking off the roof rack and the rack fairing would grant a little more headroom for door clearance, but damn, I hate to just do and and find it isn't enough, heh. Just not worth finding out only to have to keep it parked in the driveway. Though, I am sure the WRX is saying "Do it! do it! then I can stay in the garage!", hahaha.

Grats on the house. Great time to buy, sad time to sell. So many great looking homes around my way up for sale at dirt cheap prices now, but I would take a huge hit on the sale of my house, if I could even sell it. :(

Cool, thanks. I was actually going to PM you about yours. I love the way your VX looks with the lift and the M/Ts, so I hope to get the same look on mine. You lift was about 2"s as well, right? Or was it more?

Don't worry, I'll still wash my VX as regular as ever. I am thinking of getting a pro wax job sometime soon as well. But I might as well wait until after Moab since I will be covered in layer of bug juice by the time I get back.

Yeah, if you are in a position to buy a house right now, consider yourself lucky, because now IS the time. We got a wicked 30 year rate and we also bought this house in a new development before they started building. We looked at the floor plan and liked it, and then the sales lady told us about the incentives they were offering to get the community going, and it was a no-brainer at that point. It was a REALLY nice deal.

The OME 912 lift and the torsion bar cranked.I think it's closer to 3 inches with the 265-75-16's

OK, so that is one route. That is the same lift Clint has. Is it worth it to do anything up front other than crank the T-bars? Should I go ahead and put in new boots while I am messing around?

Just get a set of Mec-A-Tec boots from Indy & have em' at the ready & you'll probably never need em'...that's how it's worked for me so far...:cool:

You should do the ball joint flip. I didn't because I didn't think I was going to leave it lifted. Lift it for Moab only,but I think I wil go back and do it since I'm leaving it lifted. Just look at the condition of your boots and see if it looks like they need it. I think that is the lift that most people have done.

Nice garage. Give it a few months and see how much stuff you can accumulate to put in your garage and still have space for your VX.

Do the boots now, while you're there...bearings too. Get axles now, put them on the shelf...and when the time comes( which according to you is precisely the day after you do the lift) you can slide 'em in. You'll get good at it, open a small CV shop outside Reno, have 4 crumbcatchers (3 of which are yours:mad::rolleyes:) start drinking Old Bushmill, and die at 72 of a cirrotic liver. They'l find you clutching a picture of Spiro Agnew, clad only a loin cloth, WW2 gazmask, and a pair of "Snap-On" boots

Bart, Congrats on the new homestead. Did you buy in Reno?

As far as the ball-flip, I've had mine lifted 3 years and have not done the flip. My understanding is if you can't get the front end aligned after the lift then do a ball flip. Thus far, I've had no problems with getting front end aligned.

Pretty sure these are the two I used, together it is under $50 and it just took 2 hours and a lot of grease (comes with boots). Really easy fix and my CV joints looks brand new at 110k miles.......
