Synthetic in the Differential?

i love my mighty vac, its the best $30 ive ever spent on a tool.Its a hand held vacuum pump with a vac gauge and varoius hose attachments for syphoning fluids and even can be used as a transfer pump. makes flushing the brake system a snap, and a ton of other uses, including testing the vacuum hoses and all that.. ive even heard of people using it to test the cooling sytem (including one who collapsed his radiator accidentally in the process, so ive shyed away from that particular use.)

Ive decided im going to pay someone to flush my tranny correctly, but the rest is me, my mighty vac, and mobil one :D

I was under the impression they do a reverse flush (atleast where I go) that push debris out of the filter, via the tranny cooler, thus flushing the whole system... thats what it looked like to me-

Regardless of what brand fluids you use in your tranny...

I was looking around on Amsoil's site just now and I found this:

It's actually some sort of Tech Service Bulletin and it explains the "flush and fill" without removing the pan.
This is right in line with what Tone and some of the other guys have said!

Sorry,I cheated...we have the machine at work. Filter change is vital, after 20 or 30000. Simply draining it, only got 4.5qts. out.

Joe....real easy. Take your time, follow the steps, don't break out the beer an' such till putting the pan back on. (Step#13) they left that one out.

Personal opinion...... better. I never liked the idea of forcing gunk and the little metal bits out of the sludge and filter, back thru the system. Some is bound to end up where you don't want it. Crack it open, everything comes out the bottom, and everything gets as clean as you wish. Hint; when we do a customers car,it's strictly flush an' fill... When I do boss' 35 Ford Cabriolet (5.0 swap) or any of his toys, ALWAYS crack, clean, an' refill with synth. :cool!: :cool!: :cool!:

So I went to an Isuzu dealer/service shop and they drained the trans and hooked up to the trans cooling line to flush it, and then filled the trans fluid back in to the tune of 12 quarts (I supplied the 12 quarts with Mobil 1 ATF).
I showed the shop guy my owners manual that said the capacity is 9.1 quarts for the tranny, he just said....well that doesn't include fluid in the lines, etc.
Does this sound right?? Can you really put 12 quarts into our trannys???
Seems to drive OK, maybe a little bit clunkier now when the auto trans down shifts, weird. Any thoughts from the group?

Tranny capacity is 9.1 quarts for our flavor of the 4L30E, which does not include the torque converter, lines or cooler. So 12 should be about right.
