sorry, I didn't get a chance to photoshop- just copy paste

I installed the rancho control unit on the left and a vga touch screen on the right for my computer.. no more center air vents and still surviving in FL! This is my second attempt, and still not final. I went to a junkyard and pulled a dash bezel for 25 bucks. It’s all adhesives too and melted plastic, no fiber-glass or bondo..

question though, does anyone know which wire to the stereo is the illumination one? I need to run it to the rancho gauges so I can see them at night without turning on the dome light. Thanks!

WAY COOL!!

I've been planning a dual-din mod to my dash for a while now. It looks awsome and clean, post some close up pics of trim around the screen, I'd like to see how you finished it. It sucks how everything is at weird angles on the center radio/vent console, it's not easy to work around.

Cheers.

there are two different wires that go to the illumination, not sure which is the 'correct' one but i used the solid orange wire and that makes my headunit dim with the lights

When I mounted a Rancho Control Unit in the Rodeo…

…in order to get the gauges to light-up with the rest of the dash, I simply connected them to the hot wire output on the back of the dimmer switch.

Also, here’s a helpful tip to insure a long and happy relationship with your controller…
If you haven't done so already, be sure to use Synthetic Bearing Grease on the O-rings inside of the knob chambers on the shocks, instead of the recommended Spray Lithium Grease – it seals them 10,000 times better! :coolgray:

It could have been from a 1995.5 - 97 Rodeo... They share the same dash configuration.
(...which really messes with my head sometimes when I’m switching from the VX to the Rodeo, or vice-versa :rolleyesg )

The red/grn wire from the back of the dash light dimmer switch would be the one to grab.

Nice, how much did the touch screen run you and what is the exact name/brand of it? How does it interface with your laptop? Just through the VGA out port??? Does it also have a/v inputs?

Thanks,

Bart

PLEEEASE tell me where you got that dash bezel!!! I have a boost gauge that I've wanted to install in the fuzzy hole and YOU have discovered the piece of plastic I so desperately need.

I can't speak for FR but, I'd be willing to guess thats custom made.
As are all great VX mods !

'93 - '97 Rodeo. Our dash bezels are identical except the rodeo one is black instead of charcoal, and the fuzzy hole is replaced by a 3 switch panel blank. He's obviously modified the bezel to fill in the holes, but you could use it without fill in if you have the right combo of gauge and switch.

So that bezel on the left side of the steering wheel came out of a VX? I thought they all came with the fuzzy hole feature. And, rodeo's came with a flat bezel as well? I must find this!

sorry, I pulled the stock bezel out of a wrecked vx. I ended up cutting the center vents out and glued together the monitor housing unit. I'll post some close-ups of the monitor when I get a chance. It's a no-name that works ok, it has a usb connection for the touch, two rca's, and a computer video connection. It's run by a itx motherboard that's in my center console.
I'm surprised that the control fits in front of the shifter. That must have been a pain running all those hoses and wires, I know I had trouble running stuff through there. I'm glad you mentioned the bit about the grease on the shocks. My rear shocks suck, they'll go from 9 to like 6-7 after 1/2 an hour. Hopefully that’ll help, Thanks!

I sure like what you did with the two gauges in the fuzzy hole!
