I hope someone can share some helpful advice because I don't know where to start.

My '99 ironman has almost 70k and I replaced the shocks with rancho 9000 series about four months ago. Shortly there after I started hearing a thunk sound when going over harsher bumps from the front passenger side. There is no problem when turning (unless I hit a bump), so I'm not so inclined that it is related to CV joints.

Any similar experiences, ideas, or recommendations? I'm looking for some advice before I dive into changing CV joints, I haven't had the pleasure of changing CV joints yet.

i have had to tighten the lower bolts on the front shocks a couple times. i also have the rancho 9000 .the bushing in the front shock seems to be a little big ,and if the bracket is not tight against the lower shock mount it will make a noise.you should be able to check it if you wiggle the shock by hand. shawn

hey, got the same exact thing here with the rancho shocks on a 67K VX. This noise is really perticular, only happens on certain bumps and is definately coming from the front end like something is loose.

it is the shocks. i had the same problem as stated above and tightened up the bottom bolt on the front shocks and solved the problem.i had to do this twice . i believe the hole that the bolt goes through is too big. shawn

Thanks guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't believe it. I went to go look at the shock, and the bolt had been sheared off!!. The shock was still in place though. I have since replaced the bolt and everything is all good. Thanks for all the posts.
