Got hit by a rock last week, chipped and then crack started spreading across, so got new windshield installed today at a really busy local shop.

Since so many members here have had trouble finding these, I decided to ask if they could get a VX windshield....

ANSWER: YES, IN 1 DAY!!

NONE OEM - $286
OEM - $312

If somebody REALLY wants/needs one AND is going to Moab....I'd be happy to get them and deliver in Moab. I'll be driving my pick up to Moab, so I can fit them in the bed.

They said they could also get a shipping quote for me if I wanted to do it that way.

I'd want to absolutely confirm that they can get these, and I'd actually want to order it and SEE it in person!

Anybody interested?

Sue, I might be interested in one of the OEM windshields if it is the one WITHOUT the blue strip at the top of it. I don't need a windshield now, and Vicki is all but retired, but since these are getting harder and harder to find it would be nice to have one on hand in case something happened.

Actually, I'm planning on having the rust spots under my roof rails repaired before Moab, and in order to do that the body shop will have to remove the windshield to properly paint the roof. Problem with that is that they may destroy the windshield in the process of getting it out. Hopefully they will be able to source a new windshield, if they need to, and I can keep the other for a future spare.

I'll talk to them again today, and see if they'll order the OEM one. I mentioned that the OEM didn't have the tint at top and she seemed to really say it was like that for the higher price.

Hi, Sue. I do need an OEM for the Proton. I didn't realize that they are hard to come by. I didn't have any problem finding one when I bought my VX a few years ago.

It would to find out what other vehicles our windshield also fits. It must fit something else to be so plentiful?

I have had no troubles sourcing windshields, and in fact have had them installed for $150 before..... But other times they were far more expensive. I think I have had to replace the windshield 3 or 4 times so far.

I got mine replaced, non-OEM (with tint at top) for $259 out the door in Atlanta at Safelite Auto Glass... took about 2 hours. So far so good.

Better than my CRZ, its a much higher volume car but OEM is 700 alone or 700 installed for aftermarket...

There are some threads here where VX owners needing a windshield were quoted this much money as well

Hi there - I know this is an old thread but I'm searching for a new windshield here in the u.k.

Can't find anyone. I realise it's going to cost me plenty to ship from the states, but my VX has a crack in the screen that's about 5"-6" and spreading...!

Any info greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Ed

Windshields are usually not difficult to source. IIRC, the templates are stored in a CAD file, and the finishing work/cutting is all done by machine. It's stuff like the quarter windows, hatch window--that would be the biggest PITA to find.

Still not able to source a screen here in the UK. SAFELITE say they will not ship glass. Isuzu UK are not interested and any other companies I've asked so far can't get a parts catalogue because the VIN is Japanese and their systems only work with UK #'s

It was mentioned earlier in this thread that the windshields available for the VX must fit another vehicle (as they are so easy to obtain - in the states, at least) I would very much like to know what that vehicle is - whether Isuzu or other - as I currently have a redundant VX on my drive - a cracked screen is an MOT test FAIL in the UK and until I find a replacement the car is illegal to drive...!

Any clues as to what vehicle the non OEM windshield is made for? Any UK-based VX'ers here ever found a screen at home? Anyone got a container coming from Japan with some room for a screen??!

Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Ed

Please let me know if you ever find out what other vehicles these are!

FINALLY got a part# for VX windshield - local UK Isuzu dealer is quoting me £900 with tax (@$1,400) to supply a new glass - this is without cost of fitting...

PLEASE - can someone give me a clue to the non OEM screens that fit a VX? Or what vehicles carry same windshields?
I could buy this new part and get hit by a rock driving home! Clearly I need to find a more sensible solution.
**please note** I tried US glass providers - they don't ship glass abroad, and clearly shipping is a major factor in price.

There HAS TO BE a screen from another vehicle that fits the Vehicross.

As in my previous posts, any info greatly appreciated...

The windshield is unique to the VX according to my local Novus dealer.

Here is the states it's about $275 installed.

Do you have family/friends here in the USA that could buy it, take it and have it packed and shipped to you?

I PMed you the info regarding my workorder but I'm doubtful that it will be helpful. Good luck!

Hey if I order an OEM windshield from Isuzu here in the USA it's $935 plus shipping so the price for OEM that you got in the UK is not too bad. It's just here the aftermarket is better so we have more options.

I got quoted around $200 uninstalled. I think my area may be a bit competitive because it's a pretty rural area with many dirt and rocky roads, and rocks are always flying up and breaking them.

A VXer in Canada asked for my help to see if I could get a windshield at our low price and somehow ship it to him. I dealt with "Safelite", a huge windshield firm here. Got quoted about $200 for one, and about $350 for two. I could pick them up at the Safelite place, and then I'd have to work out the packaging and shipping to Canada. I learned not all places will sell you one flat out (without installation), but SafeLite would.

What about this idea....
you'd need somebody in the U.S. to order 2 (to make it worth your while), and then that person would have to find the absolute best packaging techniques, and shipping methods. I realize shipping may be pretty pricey to ship them to you. All in all this may end up being the same cost as the OEM one, plus you have the risk of breakage, but at least you'd have 2.

We know they ship their windshields somehow, probably in a rack. Maybe somebody here could get one built. I'm thinking you could use that expanding foam spray all throughout the box or crate, the glass wouldn't be able to move at all, and the foam is like padding.

Just an idea....

Safelite Is The Way To Go Even If You Do Not Have Full Windshield Replacement Insurance. They Have One For The VX With The Shade On Top & They Will Go To Your House To Install It. Great Price. I Have My for Years & Very Satisfied !

Sure you have found a solution by now!
Replying here to give up to date confirmation of windshield availability and pricing.

Safelite Auto Glass is definitely the way to go. They have over 500 locations across the US.
Had mine replaced by Tony at Safelite in Burlington, Washington, just south of the Canadian border. Incredible service.
The part # was FW02125 GBN - with SOLAR Tint.

The windshield is manufactured by FY ( http://www.fuyaogroup.com/ ) Quote - "Fuyao Group is the largest, most advanced manufacturer, and the biggest exporter of the automotive glass in China. Today, FUYAO automotive glass are successfully exported to Asia, America, Australia, EUROPE, including Ukraine and Russia."

The price at Safelite Auto Glass, including fitting, taxes and an owner lifetime warranty on material or labor defects was a whopping $225.63 !!
The actual material cost for the glass was $138.00!

If anyone needs a windshield replaced in northern Washinton State, I highly recommend Tony and Larse at Safelite in Burlington.

NB: One thing I was shocked to learn, that you should NEVER use the windshield sealant that contains silicone, the one that most automotive stores sell! The reason being that once applied and cured, NOTHING will stick to it. In other words, should you ever need to have your windshield replaced, the urathane adhesive/sealant that windshield installers use, will not stick or form a good seal wherever silicone has been applied before. Unless you sand and repaint the windshield frame prior to installing a replacement, you WILL have water leaks!

I hope all of this is helpful!
