New Windshields Available! Both OEM and non OEM!

Got hit by a rock last week, chipped and then crack started spreading across, so got new windshield installed today at a really busy local shop.

Since so many members here have had trouble finding these, I decided to ask if they could get a VX windshield....

    ANSWER: YES, IN 1 DAY!!

    NONE OEM - $286
    OEM - $312

If somebody REALLY wants/needs one AND is going to Moab....I'd be happy to get them and deliver in Moab. I'll be driving my pick up to Moab, so I can fit them in the bed.

They said they could also get a shipping quote for me if I wanted to do it that way.

I'd want to absolutely confirm that they can get these, and I'd actually want to order it and SEE it in person!

    Anybody interested?

Sue, I might be interested in one of the OEM windshields if it is the one WITHOUT the blue strip at the top of it. I don't need a windshield now, and Vicki is all but retired, but since these are getting harder and harder to find it would be nice to have one on hand in case something happened.

Actually, I'm planning on having the rust spots under my roof rails repaired before Moab, and in order to do that the body shop will have to remove the windshield to properly paint the roof. Problem with that is that they may destroy the windshield in the process of getting it out. Hopefully they will be able to source a new windshield, if they need to, and I can keep the other for a future spare.

I'll talk to them again today, and see if they'll order the OEM one. I mentioned that the OEM didn't have the tint at top and she seemed to really say it was like that for the higher price.

Hi, Sue. I do need an OEM for the Proton. I didn't realize that they are hard to come by. I didn't have any problem finding one when I bought my VX a few years ago.

I have had no troubles sourcing windshields, and in fact have had them installed for $150 before..... But other times they were far more expensive. I think I have had to replace the windshield 3 or 4 times so far.

I got mine replaced, non-OEM (with tint at top) for $259 out the door in Atlanta at Safelite Auto Glass... took about 2 hours. So far so good.

There are some threads here where VX owners needing a windshield were quoted this much money as well

    Windshield needed in U.K.!

Hi there - I know this is an old thread but I'm searching for a new windshield here in the u.k.

Can't find anyone. I realise it's going to cost me plenty to ship from the states, but my VX has a crack in the screen that's about 5"-6" and spreading...!

    Any info greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Ed

Windshields are usually not difficult to source. IIRC, the templates are stored in a CAD file, and the finishing work/cutting is all done by machine. It's stuff like the quarter windows, hatch window--that would be the biggest PITA to find.

Still not able to source a screen here in the UK. SAFELITE say they will not ship glass. Isuzu UK are not interested and any other companies I've asked so far can't get a parts catalogue because the VIN is Japanese and their systems only work with UK #'s

It was mentioned earlier in this thread that the windshields available for the VX must fit another vehicle (as they are so easy to obtain - in the states, at least) I would very much like to know what that vehicle is - whether Isuzu or other - as I currently have a redundant VX on my drive - a cracked screen is an MOT test FAIL in the UK and until I find a replacement the car is illegal to drive...!

Any clues as to what vehicle the non OEM windshield is made for? Any UK-based VX'ers here ever found a screen at home? Anyone got a container coming from Japan with some room for a screen??!

    Any help greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Ed
