Spark Plug Update

So after reading several threads about spark plugs, I was wondering what you all are using now. Since, most of our VX's are well over 100K, what are the latest updates and suggestions?

...Bueller? Sometimes answers don't come quickly but at least on this forum they usually come. You musta pulled a stumper there. I believe the mighty VX came with Denso K16PR-P11 plugs gapped at .040 inch. Now Denso PK16PR11 Double Platinum plugs may also be used but just remember that they are not a high performance plug, just a high mileage plug, as in long-life... I have seen them both listed as Platinum plugs, but I believe the K16's are Iridium. Champion has their RC10PYP4 available but I think I'd steer clear according to reports.

Speaking of reports, it occurs to me there was a discussion either here or over on The Planet about our little beasties having some sort of sensored ignition system that required the use of OEM Denso plugs. Not sure about that one but it bears mentioning...

How about just cleaning and reinstalling the OEM"S? I've done that and am at 170K.

I thought it sparked from the lack of oil in cylinders....

I'm going with NGK plats. My gut instinct is to use NGK's on Japanese vehicles. We'll see how it goes.

I use NGK solid copper on my old Porsche, a good brand.

Platinums, Iridiums, etc, all sound impressive nowadays, but be sure to get a plug in the recommended heat range (hot, cold) originally specified for the VX. The guys at your local Autozone, O'Reillys', etc will usually be able to look that up and help you go from there.

I tried one of the latest and greatest in my car for awhile, but was never really satisfied that they performed any better or lasted any longer than the stockers. I recently changed back to the original type, the car is running smoother than it has in quite awhile, and the iridiums I was trying didn't have that many miles on them.

So I put some Denso Iridium Twin Tip plugs in the VX...runs good but gas mileage took a big hit..dropped almost 2 MPGs.

Thinking about going back to the Denso PK16PR11s gapped at the factory .04 recommendation and see if my mileage returns to normal.
