...Wagoneer Dana 44 front axle for a SAS. Step one (of many many slow steps) is complete. I plan on stripping it down, repainting it, replacing anything that needs replacing and then it will go into hybernation until the rest of the parts collection is completed....think loooooonnnnnnnngggggggggg term project.:bwgy:

Isn't that axle quite a bit wider than ours? Why not just get an Isuzu 12 bolt Dana44?

About 2 inches. Will probably run 1 inch spacers in rear and wheels with a bit more rear spacing.
Ah, $50 for the 44 and way more parts available!

Measured the axle today....stock VX WMS-WMS 62" the waggy 44 64". Just as I thought from eyeballing it.

Going to start searching for a 92-95 Trooper tcase to drop the revolution gears in and get rid of the TOD case. Hopefully be able to find one in the local yards for cheap. Then I will learn to tear it down to put the gears in!:bwgy:

All D44s are 10 bolt. Isuzu only used them in the rear so would be tough to make them work right. You can flip them for a high pinion and make the gears turn right but then you have oiling issues for the pinion bearing.

Side note, when I was at the pull n pay this weekend ALL the isuzu D44s were torn apart and the r&p gears gone. Jeep guys like to use them.

Instead of a hybrid 12bolt/d60, if I wanted to spend big money, I would go with some Atomic Axles..

Nah, you still got cv's...might as well stick with the IFS! Now a nice set of spider 9's on the other hand. Man I just need Ian and the Xtreme 4x guys to come build me my dream VX!:yeso:

I've had the same thought about that show. How awesome would it be for them to go hog wild on a VX? That guy is talented, but of course a million bucks worth of tools and equipment will help anybody look good. I miss Jesse though.

Much larger and stronger cv's though. And the angle is fixed so no extreme angles where cv's usually break.

...offered them the "Astral" VX I picked up from Atlanta with the blown tranny.

I offered to hook them up with parts "sponsorship" etc from Indy/OME-ARB / Clamini etc....and to put some $$'s into the project.

Never heard a word back from them......:(
