Those charts are worth about as much as the paper they are written on...that ones not even on paper so you get the point. They do not take into account bone density, muscle mass, water percentage, etc.
By the way, it has me in the overweight catagory...I am 5'7 and 156 lbs.
Lets see, this week I will have biked 250 miles, ran 65 miles and swam 10,000 yards....wonder what it takes to be in the normal range other than forcing yourself to throw up after every meal?

And Moncha, you were looking a little plump in Moab!
    Just kidding of course!

Off to the pool I go...gotta get skinny!

So this is probably about ideal weight...

Mmehhh...that's OK, I'll go on living large, pleasingly plump, vertically challenged, short for my weight...call it what you will, I've gotta have some in reserve, to get through the cold Northern winters...

She wouldn't last one January day around these here parts...

    Me?...6 feet nuthin / 225-230, depending...

Sweetness just fixed me a couple of ham, spam, onion, egg & swiss hoagies, so I'm thinkin this afternoon, it's gonna be closer to 230...

If you read the fine print it was originally designed to measure the bmi of sedentary people. So if you are muscular and an athlete it doesn't work.

I think everyone is missing the point. The human body functions best at a certain weight regarding to height. Remember that is the inside of your body too.

Yeah, Billy I bet you will not find another person 5'7 156 lbs. that run/ride what you do. You're one in a million. What you will find are the other 999,999 5'7 156 lb people that are over weight and not in very good shape.

So does this mean the chart is useless. No, it means maybe one should look at one height/weight and see if you are the one in million or one of the 999,999.

Really one doesn't need a chart. Take your shirt off and be honest with yourself.

    Peace.

triathelete, biked 250 miles, ran 65 miles, and swam 10,000 yards.

handeeman biked from one side of his garage to the other.(didn't ride I pushed the bike-tougher than riding), then I drove almost 250 miles, then I back-stroked my floating lawn-chair across my pool to reach my cooler ! some of us work harder than others to stay in shape.

back on thread: I do think crotchrocket is an obese git (?) how does a chubby fellow like that get a girl like Clair I don't know ? plus she's been known to wash his car for him ! I guess sometimes the name just fits .
So I said to myself, I said "Handee"
and this voice came back and said..
"He's not in, may we take a message?"

Sorry Mate, that was poorly worded...

It should'v read, with swiss cheese, on a Hoagie bun.

A hoagie bun is like a hot dog bun, only bigger...a sub bun, only smaller.

Right there in the middle, perfect for brats, etc...

Wow I'm horribly under weight. 5'3" @ 45.5kg How embarrassing. Now what do I do . Eating more is not a valid answer . Seriously I eat chocolate and peanut butter for breakfast , rice and gravy is a staple for lunch and dinner .

    Bingo!

Yes, I am an oddity...but it doesn't take much to get in reasonable shape. 30 minutes a day...most people spend more than that (a lot more) on the internet, watching TV or playing video games.
