It's already on every other car forum... thought I'd post it here.

    Question

    I don't see what's wrong...

I am sure that is the proper way to change tires on an exotic automobile (never having owned one myself) and that the proffesional staff at the shop would treat an Elise with the same care that they would ANY car that came into the place (even that sweet minivan on the other lift).

    Gill,

To properly lift an Elise on a 4-point lift, you have to remove the undertray to expose the lift points. The easiest way to change tires on it, I've found, is just to jack up one side at a time with the center jack-point, which is exposed and doesn't require removal of undertray.

They lifted the car apparently without removing the undertray, and probably used the center jack points as the rear lift points. So it was precariously balanced... When they removed the front wheel, the weight balance of the car was thrown off, and the whole thing fell backwards off the lift.

I've been following that the last couple days. Hope the guy gets a result he's happy with...

If he had a Toyota Tacoma he wouldn't have even had a scratch. I've seen the commercials for what those can go through.

Kidding! (that's why I pointed the stupid sign at myself)

I hope that guy gets a brand new Lotus from Goodyear. Nothing else comes close to making up for destroying such a beautiful car. I don't work on cars (let alone exotics), but even I could see in the pics that the aerodynamic undertray did not provide lift points...

Some of these guys and shops have no clue, and are to be avoided (even by minivan owners). I took my last car, a Pontiac Fiero Formula), to a Jiffy Lube once. They were confused when they could not find the engine up front... time to go! Man, I miss my Fiero!

I just got back from Las Vegas. The rental car my buddies & I had was a Chevy Malibu. I could have gotten an Elise from the same place... maybe next time!

something similar happened here in my town at a local body shop where they do underbody coating. It happened while the owner was watching.
And while the owner was in shock of the event the owner of the shop said:
this is a handy position for me!
    Car : Citroen
    Damage: €3000,00
VX : CLOSEST THING TO A CONCEPT CAR!
