    mild mannered exhaust

so ive been doing searches for possible exhaust options for the VX and have come up with morgan-tec's muffler, a PV or flowmaster... but i feel like all of these are louder than i want to make my VX... so heres my question

is there any way to make my VX sound a little more aggressive (louder) but not enough that you can hear me coming from a mile away.. basically i want it to sound like it could just be a really bad@$$ stock exhaust... any ideas how to get my vx to growl?

I don't have firsthand experience on either one of these mufflers but I am planning on going for one of these on my own VX when I can afford it. Supertrapp in black (adjustable sound and back-pressure with diffuser plates) or the Hushpower from Flowmaster (it is supposed to keep in-cab heat transfer down and give a nice mellow sound).

Put a tiger in your tank...

Sorry, couldn't resist...for those too young to remember, that was ad slogan for Esso gasoline.

I've had a Borla on mine for a while & like it.
When first installed I thought it was too loud, so I installed a SuperTrapp in the tip...too restrictive.
Finally found a gizmo that looks like a potato ricer (think perforated cone) that fits indide the exhaust tip & now it's just right...for me anyway.
Also, I was able to pass the state db test to gain entrance to the Gilbert,MN ORV park.

Arrow So, you want aggressive sound...

Try replacing your stock air filter with a K&N drop in or cone. The throatier intake sound alone is enough to get every ricer in your area eager to challeng you at the stop light. No need to mess with the exhaust, just add more air to your intake with a K&N filter, your VX will growl without the excess exhaust noise you say you don't want from after market exhausts.

i removed the intake elbow and added a green performace drop in filter (from tone) that did make an improvement in sound, would losing the stock air box for a cone filter make it even a little bit louder?

I still put my $$ down on PV for that stance. The more mature mine gets, the meaner it sounds. It has a nice, subtle purr while idling, and when given gas, she growls. I dont think its loud at all to be honest. Its going on 5 years old now and it sounds like more than a 3.5L is under that hood.

Funny thing happened a couple weeks ago.... I took the VX out of the garage to do some work to it. When I came back, a bunch of little kids walked by my driveway and one said....

"Hey mister, how come you dont drive the racecar much anymore?"

I pointed to the WRX which has no aftermarket exhaust "I do, I drive it all the time."

He points at the VX and says "No, I mean THAT racecar."

Racecar is associated with a beefy exhaust in my opinion, and I love the PV. Shame they went the way of the dinosaur.

Morgantech can build the muffler quieter for you. Magnaflows work well without resonance.

I just put a Morgan-tec muffler on the other day and it's loud - but has a cool deep growl. I am hoping that it will mellow just a tad. I'll be posting some pics and a sound clip tonite or tomorrow. Morgan-tec's construction is a work of art.

I can add extra baffles inside for a quieter sound volume. And my mufflers do have a "break in" period in which they will quiet down a little as well as gain a rounder smoother sound. Have you heard my sound clip of my axiom?

Morgan-Tec made me a very nice muffler with extra Baffles, and I added Resonator tips and it isn't to loud and has a throaty sound. I love it..

I installed Flowmaster 50 (not 40, that's really loud!) and have been quite pleased with the results.
