There is a little retainer washer on the pins - I first used a thin screwdriver to get underneath it and started prying at it. I then used a hammer to move it out so the retainer is up against the bracket again then pryed some more until the retainer slipped off. I think you could use a c-clamp and socket as a press though. Put the socket on the side that does not have the removable retainer and tighten. The hinge pin should slide into the socket until the retainer slides off the other end.

    Thanks Zeus,

    But Darn It!
Now I have something else I have to do on my VX.

At least it won't take long...

    I like this mod.

Can you pin them into the roof rack, so the kids can ride up there?
I always tell them that I'm going to duct tape them on top. They like the Idea.
Too bad it's not the fifties anymore, you could get away with it then.

I'll do this mod anyway, just for the option.
Who knows, maybe my next wife will haul the kids.

    Thanks guys,
    got them out this morning.
I tried to bang them out yesterday but that retainer washer looked like a bit more trouble than it actually is.
I just pryed under it with a thin scregie and then it all popped apart in minutes.
    On to Tahoe!

    Thumbs up

Yep, a while back I did basically the same thing Zeus has done. I used a pair of small hitch pins that came with several holes in them, and put a retainer clip through each to secure them. The fit is nice and tight, so there are no noises from it. I also kept all the old original parts if I ever want them. It was really cheap (like under $3). Very simple.

I actually like what Zeus did a bit better, because the whole thing is just one piece, rather than separate pin and pin clip. I actually have one of those like Zeus posted on my boat trailer's latch at work but had never thought to use one of those this way because I'd already done the mod before I had the current job. I may just switch to that. I know the ones I've seen around are of a smaller diameter than the holes in the brackets, so unless you can find them in different sizes, yeah, probably need to retain those little plastic pieces like he did.
