I was just thinking the other day that it would be really cool to have something fabbed up to make the rear seat easily removable. I wonder if there would be a lot of people interested if we figured out a way to replace the spring loaded hinges with something similar, only with clamps that disconnect the whole seat from the floor (sort of like what is on the rear of the seat)? I really want to lose my back seat, but would like to be able to quickly throw it back in if needed. I was even thinking of attaching some attachment points for two car seats for the kids to clamp right into the floor. I wonder if that would be legal?

even if it is legal i wouldnt do the car seat thing.... pretty sure being bolted to the floor in a car seat would equate to an awful ride, at least on the seats there minimal padding to absorb some of the bumps.

but i do recall seeing someone who replaced the pin in the hinges with a bolt and wingnut setup that made it relatively easy to just pull the seat out but leave the brackets in place

i was also considering bulding a subwoofer box along one of the sides of the cargo area that could double as a seat.. it would be easier to remove than the seats... accessable through the tail gate.. and supply me with some nice bass.... hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

    yanking rear seats

I remvoved my rear seat about a month ago. I lined the floor with a big sheet of the tool drawer liner made from a rubber material. Keeps items from sliding, plus you could save a bit on gas from hauling around that extra 60 to 70 pounds! I also just put the bolts back in for now and since the carpet has velcro flaps it looks good enough.

It's seems everyone has made this way too complicated. I simply removed the two hinge pins and replaced them with $5 pull pins I found at Ace. I retained the plastic inserts that supported the original hinge pins and that has kept everything from squeaking. I can install my seat in less than a minute and it's even quicker to take out. I have considered using the seat mounts for a full size spare tire mount (baja style) that's just as quick to remove. Options... it's a beautiful thing.

    Zeus,

You know, you can't just post something like this and not post pictures at the same time!

Seriously, I would like to see some pictures of your rig with the Ace pins in place...if you have the time.

    Thanks - Bart

Well as luck would have it... as I was posting I went looking for the pins I took out before the 'ZuZoo so I could post pics but they are so "convenient" that they seem to have disappeared! I'm thinking the landlord took them thinking they were his. Anyway, I'll make my way to Ace tomorrow to price, photo and pick some more up.

Ace Hardware - (2) 5/16" x 2-3/4" zinc plated pins = $4.80 plus tax = quick release rear seat. I hope the pics posted alright. It's hard to see but the plastic sleeves are on the seat mounts holding the pins.

i like the baby seat anchors because it gives me something to tie things down to in the back when im karting around spare tires and things like that...

im gonna build a large platform and rhinoline mine so that i can just throw stuff back there and i dont have to worry about my dog dirtying stuff up...

That's a greayt idea! I've been using a bolt with a wing nut for my quick release seat option. I'll be switching over tomorrow!
    Peace.

I used the removable pin tip about a year ago, when I first saw it.
The pins are a perfect dia. easy to use, I might silacone the bushings in to keep them in place, but with two kids, I never get to take it out

almost a year since this has been updated......

I am about to do this quick mod to my VX and had a question.

Is there any concern about lack of strength when swapping these pins?

Those pins should be plenty strong. Most of the strength (in case of an accident) comes from the rear latch anyway. The front is primarily for stabalization & the hinge.
