Sunroof- the inexpensive route

Has anyone had any experience with the VehiCross and one of those non-powered tilt-up sunroof models? I've installed a few of these in my vehicles over the years, usually ending up taking out the glass vs. tilting up, which looks a little silly and does little, IMHO. Anyway, obviously the VehiCross doesn't come with one (or mine didn't), and I'd consider this as an inexpensive alternative to not having one at all. While I'd prefer the nice powered models, it is a thousand dollars more or less, and my kitchen/family room remodel is killing my cash flow.

Oh yeah i've being wondering to had this mod on my UFO =,even today i went to one of those sjop wehere they install them.The powered opcion is quite steep,instead the top off opcion is more affordable,deffinetly yeas

If you're going inexpensive, I'd just buy an electric sunroof (spoiler style) And install it yourself.

I paid $500 for the one I installed in my old S10 ZR2. And it took about 4 hours to install. Measure twice, cut once... and when you do cut that once... make it too small first and then gradually increase

Installing an electric one (as long as it's a spoiler style, not a "built in" style) Is just as easy as installing a manual sunroof.

I got a quote a few years back around my way for a manual pop-up/removable moon roof for around $375 with a lifetime guarantee for leaks, malfunction, even paint around the trim. I considered buying my own and just doing the install since I have past experience, but I simply do not have the tools and it's always nice having a warranty/guarantee as a backbone regardless. Getting hokey with some t-tops in my VX and blasting it back to the 70's would be even more fun, but that is some painful works and I don't think the VX's a-pillar frame is stable enough for such.

Disclaimer: I have done MANY tt-top/moon/sunroof installs on many cars in the past, and they are relatively fast and easy, for skilled installers that is, heh. If you have never done it and do not have the proper equipment, totally, let the professionals do it. You will be kicking yourself silly when you mess up just the slightest and suddenly the you have a gaping, scraped up, dented hole in your roof that your moon roof simply falls through onto your lap.

I'd recommend doing an ebay search... When you find one for a price you like, do a google search for that same make and model. See what info reviews, pricing etc. you can find outside of ebay, then Plan according.

I bought mines on ebay.com for $ 150 brand new,the installation goes around $ 300.
The funny thing of this top off sunroof is that you can tilt either from the front or the rear.

The sunroof brand is Remove-A-top,I find out that the company went out-of-business three months ago

According to the molding used to cut through the roof the size is 16.5" width by 30.5" lenght;I also believes that's the biggest size you can go with.

It looks very good though.

Sorry i didn't had few pics & my girlfriend took the camera now with her to the dominican republic last week for vacations

As soon she's back i'll have a couple of pics & e-mail them to you so you can have a idea how it looks

But deffinetly you can find dozen of manual sunroof out there,just do a tight research & you"ll find the right one

If you're going to have it done; let the professionals do it! I would just look in the local yellow pages of your paper-bound phone book for a respectable auto shop that specializes in such products/services. They can give you the cost/price differences between a custom interior sliding model and the cheaper pop-top/flip-up models. The previous owner of my VX had an expensive electric moon-roof installed that slides within the interior and looks like it came from the factory. It is way cool, and automatically closes when the iginition key is turned off. It doesn't leak a drop in rain. However, my other commuter car has a cheaper pop-top/flip-up model sunroof and it leaks during heavy rain storms. Bottom line-- you get what you pay for. Still, whatever you decide, have the professionals do it. You'll be glad you did. Best Regards, Riff Raff

Oh yes you right;In my case i had the shop bench checked the sunroof before installation for possible faults.They had the sun roof installed & looks very good,no leaks,no problems.
It's very important to keep clean & use silicone solution on the insulator rubber once time to time.
