    Cladding Screw Size?

This may be a crazy question and idea, but I have been toying with the idea of replacing the cladding screws with Stainless Steel or Chrome Screws. I've got two questions that maybe someone could help me out with.

    1. What is the specs. on the cladding screw (i.e. 10-24 * 1/2"?)

    2. Anyone have an idea on where to find something like this?

    Thanks in advance,

The cladding screws are not any machine thread, they are self tapping screws. They're cheap enough though, buy new ones and chrome them if thats what you want.

Be aware tho, that there are 2 lengths of cladding screws. The longer ones (about an inch or 3/4" an inch of thread) go in the top part of the cladding all around the vehicle. The shorter ones (about a half inch of thread) go in the rocker panel cladding in the door sill.

    cladding screws

You shoul be able to get something at any fastener store. But be careful! Changes these to a different metal type could cause rust (dissimilar metals and all) my body guy suggested swapping mine with some sort of polymer or plastic.

I was just thinking of doing this the other day. Did you ever go through with it and what was your experience?

I was thinking of either stainless steel or chrome as well.

    Thanks

Don't think you have to worry about different metals here. It uses a plastic nutplate. BUT, if you find a source for this fastner in either Chrome or stainless, please share.

Untill tonight when I would be able to post them. I think it is Mark Miller on here that has done it as well. You should check his gallery or come see mine in person.

Don't know if they are the same, but last weekend, I stripped and polished the gas filler cap thingee and the screws that are used there polished up real nice and easy. I then sprayed them with a product from Eastwood called 'Diamond Clear', a clear coat for bare metals. Guess it has a acid or something in it so that the clear coat would adhere to bare polished/chrome metals. They looked pretty good if you have a buff wheel attached to your bench grinder.
