Rear / Clear side marker lense post

Just bringing over some good info from the other board

This post is for anyone looking to replace the Red Rear Side markers on the back left and right sides of your VX.

I discovered a while ago that the side marker lense for the older style miata will fit on the VX to give you some lighting & styling options.

Here are some shots of the miata lense on the miata:

    http://www.finishlineperformance.com...ion&key=EL1016

    The lense above costs $41.80

More details on the lenses below, this is a quote from thier site. Apparently this is a full lamp assebly replacement. These are: $209.95 for 4 as you have to buy them as a set but I bet they'd look sweet!!!! :

Got Chrome? Give your Miata a vintage flair with this Chrome Side Marker Lamp set. Specifically designed and engineered to fit into the existing side marker openings using hidden screws to provide a flush clean look. Lamps are genuine Hella Amber LED inserts. This set will complete your entire Miata with all lamps, wiring and instructions included.
I imagine the set of 4 above means it comes with front and back marker replacements for the miata so I suspect the fronts have orange bulbs and the rears have red. Something to keep in mind if you order them. I am not sure how easy it woould be or if it is possible to swap the orange bulbs to red. I believe the front and rear markers are the same so it may be possible for a few folks to group buy or split a set between two people and one wuold be stuck having to sawp the orange to red bulbs IF that is a possibility?

Proof they fit: this is a shot of the marker on a miata, if you check the part #'s in this pic and compare them to your VX lense you will see they are the same.

They have your basic clear ones like Cyrk has here:

Then you have some style options as you see below:

I just got a pair of these rear miata side markers but they don't seem to fit real snug in the slot. The naked eye can't really tell but a VX owner can. Does anyone else have these on that can give some advice. the look great but just not totally snug

There is no way to make them fit perfectly, because they curve out more in the middle...in fact they are overall thicker then the stock red rear lense covers.
I found a partial cure by sanding off the prongs or tabs on the back of the new clear lenses, and sanding down (with a grinder) about 1/2 the thickness of the entire plastic backing on the new clear lenses. Do it carefully, I cut through on of my first ordered clear lenses (second order $35) but well worth it, because I, like you, was not happy with the fit. Its not perfect now, but much better, and I do love the look of clear lenses on my black VX...all but my taillights are clear.

I have had mine for about 6 months now and the little lip that protrudes never once bothered me. Nobody has ever said a thing about it either. I would just try to get used to it. Eventually, you just wont care at all.

Mine will mist up occasionally, but never had a bulb blow from it. I never worry about it.

Anyone interested in a set of these Miata clear lenses? I bought a set, housings and all, awhile back but decided afterwards to just leave everything stock.

Still new in the box. I'd take $40 OBO plus shipping.

You give me too much credit. I was motivated by being too lazy to type all that stuff and find the appropriate parts links.
