Slightly off the subject, but a while ago I clearcoated one of my faded headlights with automotive clear just to see what would happen. I prepped the transparent surface with 2000 grit sandpaper and cleaned it really well, and the clear adhered well and restored the lens to like-new. Two years later the AZ sun has begun to fade it a bit again, but it still looks okay. I'm guessing an auto paint shop could clear a pair of lenses pretty cheaply.
This is because by sanding it, you have removed the UV coating on the plastic. So now it will yellow twice as fast.
