    sirius install

Sunday saw the sirius package for the alpine a1-net. $99 at best buy. btw I hate that best buy sells alpine instead of circuit city now.... worse service and a beeeech to check out. Anyho, went and picked it up and they wanted $70to install seemed easy enough and said no thanks.. I got to looking at the antenna and it's a magnet holder . to the roof .. Didn't want to go down by the rear door so looked at thee radio antenna area. I was told not to kink the wire or spend $30 on a new one. So I took the plastic off the head liner exposing the antenna secur nut . Took it off and found the rubber on top is twice as large as the hole . Took the dremel out cut a 3/8 inch u shaped hole for the wire. Caulked the extra resecured the antena and it was good to goo. being careful at no kinks in the wire.ran the wire to the radio areea behind panels. hooked the sirius to the ai-net hot wire from the unit to yello hot wire and shoved in the hole where the 6 disk changer went. there was just enough room to replace the cd pocket that takes that place and hold it down against the computer. wow I hate reading long threads but look what I've done??? Anyho I completed this project in 2 1/2 hours including the set on the phone.. btw the satelite doesn't pick up in the garrage . Had to back it out. Works great oh.. grounded to the screw that holds the radio mount in... I'll have to post picks tonight ... Beats the heck out of $70.. Any one else put the sirius in??? Did you think about the already antenna hole?? I know that bb would have run the wire down the door . Causing a eyesore when openiing the door , and the opening and closing I think would have eventially hurt the wire and cost that$30..
    VX...Priceless...Everything else there's mastercard..

I've been a SIRIUS user for quite some time now but went with the portable Audiovox unit so I could move it from vehicle to vehicle and into my home and office. As for the antenna, on my Dragon it's mounted right in the center of the insert and the cable was just routed through an existing opening in the firewall. On my IronMan I got more creative and mounted the antenna inside the rear spoiler. In both cases I didn't have to cut or modify anything on the VX and they each receive great, plus I still have the stock antenna for AM/FM if needed.

Yeah, it gets a lot of comments especially since it's the larger first-gen dual element antenna. Mostly they think it's a phaser emitter.

I've managed to get an extra mini-antenna or two with extra docking stations from eBay, so will eventually mount one inside the rear spoiler of the Dragon as well. I really like the totally hidden look, and people with other satellite systems can't believe the VX has a "built-in" antenna better than the protuberance on their luxury car.

It turns out that the area that the window defroster vents are in at the front of the dash is sheet metal and the magnetic antenna mounts perfectly there with the cable run along the edge of the front of the dash. I have a sirius Starmate that I mounted in the ashtray (removed) opening on a plate I fabricated. This allows me to remove it easily for use in my other car.
