My review of the PROFLASH manufactured by
    Street and Performance Electronics

This past summer I sold a couple of the PROFLASH Performance Programmer from SPE and Airdeano sent me one of the new models to evaluate for him. I have been `evaluating' for about 6 months, and my impression and experience is as follows.

First off, the instruction manual is very easy to read and understand (lots of pictures). Follow the instructions. Pull the fuses as defined. This will prevent the possibility of anyone interrupting the process and causing the tuner to disable it and the vehicle.

I installed the PROFLASH on my 2000 Sierra w/ 70,000 miles in the TOW/RV mode with 87octane gas and 125 mph tires selected. My tires are stock size (265R70-16) so I didn't use the speedometer part of the tuner.

In the TOW/RV mode I nearly had to re-learn how to advance in stop and go traffic. My truck would surge forward with just the slightest of pressure on the accelerator and wouldn't shift into a higher gear until I got over 15 MPH. Normal driving functions prevailed, with noticeable response improvement. Under heavy acceleration it seems like the TC didn't lock as fast as in normal driving conditions. With the 125 mph tires the engine would tach up to about 6100 in first and second gear. In third, it quit pulling at 125 mph. With all of the additional performance I still realized 1 to 1-1/2 mpg improvement with 75% freeway driving.

In the economy mode, my truck still performed better than stock and realized 2 to 2-1/2 mpg. I enjoyed the disengaging of the transmission when coasting after I got used to tapping the brake to engage the TC if you need to use engine braking.

I found the changing back and forth between the three modes (stock, economy, and TOW/RV) easy and definite. I did not evaluate the performance mode because I was able to "whup up on" a couple of Lightnings in the TOW/RV mode.

I believe that with a GOOD set of headers and free flowing exhaust you would be able to pickup 70 to 75 HP over stock with the PROFLASH.

I consider the PROFLASH Performance Programmer a must have for the performance minded enthusiast.

    John,
Any idea of if/when this might be available for the VX?,also would it be able to incorporate settings for a supercharger?
My third & hopefully final question, any chance of reintroducing the original P V muffler or a somewhat quieter alternative to the P V2?

Best always & Merry Christmas, Ldub
