Congrats on just finishing that one. I saw the Pirate 4x coverage and it seemed there was a LOT more carnage than any of the previous comps. Even the serious comp buggies were having trouble. That 25 ft. wall made for some great pictures though! The moon buggy looked pretty cool and seemed to handle the course well with its ultra low center of gravity. That course was wicked!
The real issue was the hard landings. We usually have dirt or sand to land in but at RMR the courses were built on hard pack. We had 2 drivers and 2 spotters taken to the Hospital. One of the Spotters (Nick) is still in the ICU and will be for a couple of weeks. Almost every driver that took a spill (we figure 75% of the rigs many of them multiple) had some type of injury, mostly concussions and spinal compression’s. There is a lot of talk right now about increasing the safety requirements. This by itself is a major reason we are finished at least full time. This was our 6th event this year. We might compete in a couple of non-major events in stock class but we know when we are in over our heads for this level of competition.
I still have an itch to build an Isuzu VX look-a-like comp rig. If I only had a spare 30K or so.
