Front Limited Slip

Has anyone taken a limited slip (out of a trooper maybe) and installed it in the VX? Adding a front limited slip to the existing rear would be cool. Maybe not as good as a locker but once it is installed and tuned by a gear shop you would not have to do anything else.

off road would be ok though.....but only in low

For the front there is
the Lockright PN 3111 and the Power Brute Limited slip PN TL14-4.

Actually it would be better to install the ARB air locker if you were going to all that trouble.

Bob, are you sure about the 3111? I mean, you've seen it done?
I would love an ARB in the front but can't swing $1k. $300 is a little closer to my range, after the work on the house is done, that is.

What axles do I have in my truck?

'85-'87 Isuzu 8 bolt front/ Isuzu 10 bolt rear
'88-'00 (non TOD) Isuzu 10 bolt front/ Isuzu 12 bolt rear
All TOD models Modified Isuzu 10 bolt front/ Modified Isuzu 12 bolt rear


With TOD you may have to install a TOD Disconnect switch. No, Never seen it done on anything other than a 1996 Trooper.

Have an ARB locker installed in front but have to be careful as CV joints cannot stand up to increased stress when locker in use. Have broken 1 axle & 3 CV joints all passenger side (short side), CV joint not much of a problem to change but Axle breakage causes much more pain ( Time & Cost). I have trail spares & it costs me about $80 to have the complete half shaft (CV inners & outers) rebuilt with new Balls, Cages & Boots

would chromoly solve the breakage or would it be too much stress?

Always the front axle. have not heard of a rear axle ever breaking. I suppose you could Chrome Moly the CV cages & the shafts but some kind of Dual Universal might be better. Some say The front axle is equal to a Dana 44, not so as VXs front Axle diameter is about 1/3 less in Diameter.

Yes I have done the lift etc. All mods are shown in my signature which shows on the preview but not the final post?

I'm new here, but I'll add that I installed a front LSD in my 88 Trooper. The truck definitely wanted to go straight after that install. Essentially you had to steer a bit past the desired direction, then relax and the truck would go where you want.

It was designed for the rear of a Turbo Impulse (Isuzu 10-bolt).

I opted to install an ARB locker in the front of my RS Trooper. I was not really happy about having that kind of traction aid in the front of a short wheelbase vehicle. Off-road it wasn't bad, but I live in Northern Virginia, and we get snow, so I wanted to be able to drive on the street with ease.

Front posi, locking hubs and tod disconnect switch for the best of all worlds.

I was going to say. A hundred bucks or so solves the city driving problem with a pair of hubs.

It also kills the argument that under no circumstances should you lock your front end.

Heck, you could leave one hub locked all the time,and the other unlocked, on dry pavement, and still be alright.
