    SAS questions...

OK... I am considering putting things together for a SAS in the near future. I have been researching the parts needed and looking for good write-ups of said work. I had asked the question of on the Wire but thought I should talk here to.

I was told that I should look for a Wagoneer D44 for this conversion. I was told the width would be about right, and would have my passenger side front drop I need. I have found a "Grand Wagoneer" axle complete from hub to hub inlcuding calipers for $250. The person who has it said that it measures 62" fron wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface. Anyone know EXACTLY what it measures on the VX? Maybe what the rear measures since I have cracked my torsions enough now to probably knock that measurement off. Actually... with as much as I have cranked things, I bet it would be about right.

I know that there have been a person or two who have talked about doing a SAS... just wondering what kind of good info they might want to share. I am considering doing this ASAP... pretty much once the VX is running again! lol... no, it isn't broken (YET), but darn it, I'm gonna fix it good!

Anyway, any info you wanna post would be great. Will this axle match up pretty good? Let me know. Thanks!

Another little question... what gear ratio do we have in our axles? Anyone?

Damn! I didn't realize these things were geared that low. Guess thats where the "zippy" feels comes from! lol I mean, lets face it... the 3.5 does decent, but not a TON of power on hand... lol Anyway, thanks Tone!

How much do you all think a 4 link SAS with parts and labour go for ? What places would you recommend?

Coach, Boarzhead is getting his SAS done this month. The mechanics there should have a ton of info after they do it. I can get you in touch with them after the swap if you want.

Is it safe to assume he'll be posting up some pictures of his modification? I would be VERY intersted in seeing the articulation, some detailed pictures, and some pricing... I'm gonna see how the IFS holds up for a little while, but eventually I'm sure I'll go to SAS... later on down the road, I will find me another VX that I can leave MOSTLY stock... but thats gonna have to wait... Thanks for the info. TTYL!
