Wrench Installing OME Rear Coil Springs

Instructions for installing OME Rear Coil Springs on a VX

    OME 912, 913 or 919

    Tools needed:

    Floor Jack
    2 - Jack Stands
    19 mm End Wrench
    12 mm Socket
    Ratchet Wrench
    Small Pry Bar
    Rubber Mallet
    Lug Wench
    Torque Wench

Block front wheels. Jack up and place jack stands on the frame just behind where rear links attaches to the frame. The rear wheels will be still touching the ground.

Do one side at a time. Position Floor Jack under rear axle between the pumpkin and shock mount, on right or left side depending on what side is being done. Loosen lug nuts. Lift rear axle just enough to get rear tire off the ground, take tire off. Measure axle height, you will need this later.

With tire off, unbolt upper sway bar bushing and let it hang free.

Unbolt bottom shock mount and lower the rear axle about 2-3 in., use small pry bar to get shock off bottom shock mount and let it hang free.

Lower rear axle all the way. The old spring will fall out.

See if you can reuse the rubber Spring Isolator (rubber spacer between spring and body). I was able to reuse mine. If you can?t reuse spacer then replace with new ones.

Clean any debris off spring mount. Install new spring with Isolator, the tighter coils with flattened end goes up. Position top first, push down axle for more articulation, slip lower end of spring onto spring mount. Rotate bottom coil to fit into key.

    Reassembly:
Lift rear axle enough to reattach shock, I used the Rubber Mallet to help. Tighten lower Shock bolt.
Lift rear axle to previous measured axle height. Reattach sway bar bushing. Remount tire. Drop axle and torque wheel lug nuts to spec.
One side is done. Keep jack stands in place and repeat for other side.

    Cool Looking For Follow-up Info

    Hey Rickshaw,
Thank you for the great write-up. It is going to be really helpful. I have a few follow-up questions.
    1) It looks like you used the stock shocks, which is what I am hoping to do. Is that correct?
    2) If yes to number 1, how is the ride quality compared to stock, and are there any issues with shock travel up or down?
    3) You listed OME 912, 913, and 919. Which ones did you use, and how much lift did they give you over stock height?
    4) Do you know what are the differences between the 912s, 913s, and 919s? I'm interested in lifting my VX only 2 to 3 inches, with 2 to 2 1/2 inches being ideal.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

Not sure how often he still gets on here...If you search 913 Experiment you'll have all the answers to you questions above. I use the 913s with OEM shocks and no issues. The ride is better for sure but the bodyroll is slightly more.

Thanks Mike High! You were right! All of my questions were answered by Rickshaw's 913 Experiment, to include your experience with the OME 913's. Thanks for taking the time to respond!
