A/C Condenser Help! New Owner

Hi Everyone,
I recently bought my 2nd VX in 5 years, a 2001 Ebony Black with 71k original miles. The A/C is not working and according to my mechanic, I need a condenser and dryer. I have located a condenser online but the seller says he it's for a 99 and 2000 MY and can't guarantee it will fit an '01. Is that true? Are the 01's A/C system any different? Any help would be appreciated.
