QUICK OVERVIEW: Trust us veterans!
• 4Lo is the main thing you NEED, and only SOMETIMES.
• Sliders are nice for protection, but not necessary.
• Bigger tires, maybe 31s at least, are also nice, but not necessary.
• A little lift or larger tires allow you to clear virtualy everything.
• DON'T NEED a winch or rock bumpers. Always someone in group that has a winch if needed.
• Many long timers are very used to helping 1st timers learn the ropes!
• The first day trail is always an easier one for everyone (including stockers) to get acquainted with the terrain.
• There’s always multiple lines to choose from to best suit your rig, and there’s ALWAYS a helpful spotter to guide you
(Here I am first year, all stock! No lift, tires even a hair smaller than stock!!! With Billy Oiliver spotting me. ) (y)
• Undercarriage scrapes are likely, but not fatal, espcially with skid plates. ALWAYS sound WAY worse than they are!
• LOWER Front & Rear bumper scrapes occasionally, but usually can avoid.
• Trailer hitch can take the brunt of rear scrapes.
• Can bring your friendly dog, most motels allow. BUT NOT ALLOWED IN NATIONAL PARKS...only a few trails are in official NP. Doggie daycare is available in town. ALWAYS consider temps before leaving in car (never a good idea ever). Moab is usually hot!
• Also note…you don’t have to stay the entire week. Many just stay 4 or 5 days and it’s still well worth it!!
• AND REMEMBER, YOU DON’T HAVE TO DO CRAZY INSANE THINGS! Those familiar with the trails can advise you what they’re like and what your rig can do and you say what you don't want to do with it.
