SurTrac worked for me...they have both...the entire axle or the outer shaft.

Amazon will have the best price.

Dayle, we're you at a house on the SW side (Camino Fresco) of town last week? Pretty sure it was your VX parked across the street from my house.

SurTrack worked for me too. Had them in a couple of years now and have even gone to Moab with them. Some heavy footed individuals with large tires (you know who you are) have had some issues with them breaking, but if you mostly stick to the street with some occasional reasonably sane offroading then you should be just fine.

Here is the driver side complete axle assembly: http://www.amazon.com/SurTrack-IZ-80...S0RZWXRMP11W34
Here is the passenger side complete axle assembly: http://www.amazon.com/SurTrack-IZ-80...RDP325ZQZQHGR0
And here is the outer axle assembly (half shaft) if you don't need to replace the axle all the way to the center diff: http://www.amazon.com/SurTrack-IZ-80...RDP325ZQZQHGR0

    Enjoy!

So you are taking out the whole axle? I'm assuming you unbolted the mounts then? Two in front and two in back? I took out the steering linkage because I couldn't slide it out, but I heard it can be done with some twisting and maneuvering.

I haven't removed the pumpkin, but a few others have and it sounds like an incredibly involved process. Jon (VXorado) gave me some pointers when I was thinking of doing this so hopefully he, or someone else who has done this, will see this and chime in.

From what I remember enough has to be removed so that it can slide a bit to one side (drivers I think) so that the other side can drop first and then the whole thing should drop out.

    Maybe shoot VXorado a PM.

If you are replacing the entire shafts then yes you must drop the diff. If you are just replacing the outer shafts (half shafts) you do not need to drop the diff.

You can use the info from the attached diff drop instructions to see how to drop the pumpkin. My solution to replacement axles was to change over to newer Trooper axles and CVs. What this does for me is gives me a much larger source of used half-shafts in junkyards. I may still (and do) break my CV joints when hard wheeling but I just replace them with spares source from my local pick-n-pull.
