    Window Gremlins have visited

Windows have been working perfectly...until today.

Went to roll down the passenger side window and KA-Blooey (all credit for this technical term goes to T4B). Broke the plastic tab that holds the window to the glass. No problem since I have an SBC bracket for just such an occassion...except...when I pull the door apart one of the clips on the regulator that guides it up and down the center guide is broken on one side. When you pull the glass off of the regulator it swings away from the guide.

Before I pull the trigger on a new/used one please verify for me that this is the only fix for the center plastic being broken...

I have the piece if anyone has a fix...

    Thanks for the reality check!

Went ahead and took the window out and mounted the SBC bracket.

I'll put it back in tomorrow after the PC-7 cures for 24 hours.

Cleaned the tracks good and lubed with silicone spray. All the rubber looks good with no tears or pinches.

I'll see how it does and then decide if I want to/need to replace the regulator.

Did my drivers side yesterday with the SBC bracket. No matter ( spacers, washers, bungee ) what I do the smaller front wants to shift down on me. Tracks and rubber channel looks fine.

Same issue with my passenger side as well, but now at least it stays on the regulator instead of falling into the door.

From what I see, in my case, is that the plastic guide on the regulator is broken on the forward side. This allows the front to tip in instead of staying level.

Works great going down, but going up is another story...

Someone installed a pulley wheel or something to replace the plastic guide. IIRC that was last summer so the thread should still be active. If I can find it, I'll post a link.

New window regulator showed up today so I had no choice but to get the VX back into top shape (couldn't have it just falling apart)...

Pretty easy exchange. Had to be careful with the three phillips heads that held the motor to the regulator. They're soft metal and mine were extremely tight and hard to break loose. Without the right bit it would have been easy to strip the heads.

Interesting to find that the bottom bolts for the center rail had spacers between the door frame and the rail...who knew????

Pretty easy to get the window adjusted with the SBC bracket AFTER I got it into both the front and rear tracks correctly.

Works great now and this was the second step to the fix that my window required.

My VX is in the shop (still - going on a month now!) - I just told them to order and install new regulators, motors, and rubber/felt strips for both doors. Total bill is...well, it's big. I don't think this will cure my window woes, but at least I'll be starting from a known good point - and I can then work from there to hopefully fix things fully (I'm not having my shop fiddle with it - that's a money pit, I think - and they have better things to play with).

Fairly small...maybe the thickness of two-three washers.
