Pick out my rims and tires!

I just purchased a silver VX and it needs tires...which also means rims. Looking to keep it stock height for now. So what is the best rim tire combo in your mind. Post pics.

Plus, why would you want someone else pick something as personal as rims? When it comes to wheels, people’s likes and dislikes vary greatly!

For instance, to me, black color hides the wheel design, so pretty much all black wheels look about the same (especially in photos). I think that it is a great way to hide ugly wheels, that you do not actually like. But I would never get attractive wheels in that color, it would be waste of perfectly good wheel And of course, I am aware how many people absolutely LOVE them.

But, stock 18" wheels are not all that bad (again, personal opinion) and with VX's being so rare, most "normal people" think that they are aftermarket, anyway.

Ok. I reviewed the 200+ plus pictures on the tire/wheel thread. I have decided I care more about the tire. However, I don't think I can get the aggressive look that I like without a lift. So how much of a lift do I need in order to fit tires like the Toyo MT or the Nitto Mud?

How much lift you need depends on several factors...
tire size, wheel offset and how much cladding you are willing to trim.

Am I going to regret not liftting my VX

Ok I have picked up my rims...going to downsize to 17in as I like more of a tire than rim look. I want a meaner looking VX and I am trying to do without a lift. Looking at two mud tires in 245/70/17 (goodyear duratrac and maxxis bighorn).

Question #1 - has anyone have experience with either of these tires and size? They should fit no problem but I have checked the tire forums and didn't see anyone running this size.

Question #2 - Am I going to regret no spending my money on a lift and tires and keeping my stock rims....I am not handy enough to do the lift myself and cant find someone local to do the EMU 913. Only a place that would do the calmini 3in lift and it is $1250 installed.

IMHO, if you are after the mean look then you should probably go with a mild lift at least.

I'm running 33x12.50's on 15" rims but that requires a lot of offset on the rims to clear everything. There are plenty of pix in my gallery to see what I'm talking about. I'm running a AT now but had MT before.

The rear coil replacement and the torsion bar crank are very easy. Any Mom & Pop alignment shop could do it (or even work it out with the kid working in the shop to come to your house & do it in your driveway, then drive it to the shop for the alignment). I assume that the box store shops won't because of liability reasons.

Sorry but I don't have any experience with the tires you're looking at.

If you chose to go with the stock 18 inch rims. These are the stock 18's sitting on Nitto Terra Grapplers 275/65R18's. They fit great with only some super minor trimming to the inside front fenders.

Opinions. There are sayings about how much opinions are worth. Its your ride. To prove my point, I have original 16" wheels and stock soze tires on my 1999. I like the look and wouldn't change it no matter how many owners here might differ. If/when the tires wear down, I will go with Ironman tires. I have them on my Veloster by chance.
