    How do I replace my Oil Cooler Hoses?

    No problems yet (knock on wood), but my oil cooler rubber hose coming from my radiator is slowly walking itself off of the metal pipe. I noticed it when I was changing my oil. Not sure how long its been like this, but I would like to get this resolved before MOAB.

    What is the procedure to replace this?

    Do I need to drain my transmission fluid?

    Someone replaced theirs in the past month or two.

    If I weren't so grey matter challenged, I'd remember who & point you to their thread.

    You shouldn't have to drain the tranny. As a matter of fact, if the hose is still in good shape, just replace the clamps. It sounds like they are the problem anyway.

    If you do replace the hoses, just plug one end of the new hose & have a plug handy for the old hose. Pop it loose, pop the new hose onto the fitting & plug the old hose as quickly as you can. Obviously a helper would be great with that process. Since you'd be replacing the old hose anyway, you could also use a pair of vice grips to close off the hose before you pop it loose from the fitting.

    You'll lose some ATF so you'll have to top off the tranny when done.

    warm it up, park on a level surface - go up and down slowly through all the gears - leave it running - get underneath and unscrew the top bolt - if it leaks out its full, if it doesnt get a pump and pump fluid into the top hole until some pours out - screw bolt back in

    Two questions...

    1. How would I go through all the gears while parked?

    2. Can I do it without leaving it running? that feels not so safe.

    Nevermind, I found the page in the tech manual. (7A–10)

    you were right on the money with how to do it.

    1. Park the vehicle on level ground and apply the parking brake firmly.

    2. Check fluid level with engine running at idle.
    NOTE: Be sure that transmission fluid temperature is below 30C (86F).

    3. Move the selector lever through all gear ranges.

    4. Move the selector lever to “Park”.

    5. Let engine idle for 3 minutes and open the overfill screw (1).

    6. Add released transmission fluid until it flows out over the overfill screw opening.

    7. Let engine idle until a fluid temperature between 32C (90F) and 57C (135F) is reached, then close the overfill screw (1).
    Torque: 38 N•m (28 lb ft)

    NOTE: To prevent fluid leaks, the overfill screw and oil drain screws gasket must be replaced each time these screws are removed.

    Interesting that last NOTE - mine doesn't have any gaskets on either bolt and neither leak...

    Maybe you are talking about the same thing, but by gaskets, they mean crush washers.

    I know what they are - my VX has never had them on the tranny and no leaks.
