Jo, if you go the route of building the guy his own VX make sure to have a document drawn up to protect yourself from any potential liability if he has any issues. Any shop would have a good amount of insurance to cover themselves against anything going wrong. I'm not saying you won't do a fantastic job, but I would hate for the guy to have an accident and then try to blame it on you for installing larger tires or something.

    Heard from "buyer" last night...

He is chewing over the $23K for a stripped down ORW.

...but he is leaning towards me building him one.

I really like the "build him one" option.

I have the crashed one with a great engine/tranny...

...so I need a good bodied one with blown engine/tranny

( maybe the one in Austin..I've contacted him.)

Put the two together...make one good one and have a bunch
of spares left over for me from the crashed one.

Thats serves a dual purpose...in that I get to keep the ORW ..

...and it brings another VX back to life.

As for covering my -A*$*$- liability wise...good advice on that...
...and YUP...it is something I've considered and will make sure I'm "safe" !

One thing to add, as a guy who's built 23 vehicles from the ground up - if you're building a vehicle for SOMEONE ELSE, that "someone" has carte blanche to be PICKY AS HELL, and work you to DEATH getting it "just right"! From where *I* sit, you're FAR better off taking the money NOW for a finished vehicle, "As Is-Where Is" - then building EXACTLY what YOU want for YOURSELF. J'es sayin'...

    Yup...wise words Ganzman.

    I've built a few vehicles..2 & 4 wheeled....

..and building for yourself is a whole different ball game
compared to building for another person

(I built a 2 stroke trail bike way back when, for a guy in the UK..
..my sisters boyfriend ...lectured him on oil addition etc..
...he still seized it...and blamed me!)

My gut says youre 100% right...

..and better to build up / modify a donor vehicle...that he supplies.

That would cut the "mechanical" aspect down to intake/exhaust and lift....

    ...which is fine.
