The purpose of such sensors to tell ECU (computer) that there is load on the engine from the PS pump. ECU bumps up the idle to prevent the engine from stalling (that is why they saw all that idle surging in the other thread).
You should be able to repair the wire without replacing the switch. But if you are not stalling the engine and not getting any CE codes, I would just keep driving it
. I have seen many cars work fine with this feature unplugged and OBD2 doesn't seem to care.
