It probably didn't help that when encountering the majority of the wanna-be-outlaw Harley riders I was basing my experience on, I was riding Japanese bikes at the time. If anything though, the reactions and comments I had to put up with usually only reinforced the apparent idea those commercialized Harley riders had that unless a person rode a Harley they were automatically un-American. (After all, fear of being considered un-American was a powerful tool being used by some in U.S. society at the time).

I also probably didn't help build any bridges at those times either when I'd start listing all of the parts on their "American made" Harley's that had actually been made in the same country as my bike that they were ridiculing at the time: their Showa suspension components, Denso electrics, Keihin carbs, etc, etc, etc.

I WAS always able to stop short of suggesting that owners of the Porsche-designed V-Rod could by their own logic then possibly be considered Nazi's though, since I always liked those bikes...and it's not like they could help who bought them.

I think the problem is that Jeep is selling two things:
The idea that if you have a Jeep, you can go anywhere with it (which we all know is nowhere even close to true)
And that if you don't drive a Jeep, you can't hang out with us.

It is the same way that I feel about Abercrombie/hollister, Apple and so on.

I do agree about the VX elitist thing though, I got over that real quick hanging out with the Zu group in Uwharrie. I have developed a deep respect for those that wrench their own vehicles vice taking them to a shop for every little thing. No offense to those that do, but must other Zu folks on the Planet work on their own trucks. Most Jeepers haven't done anything beyond bolting on a simple mod, but I can appreciate a built from the ground up Scrambler.
I did notice that the Cherokee guys in the group were kind of the black sheep. They weren't cool enough to get a Wrangler or Rubi, but they let them stay because at least it is a Jeep.

PS-You will never catch me on a Harley, I really want a BMW or even a KMW clone, I love that cross tour look with the fairings and hard packs. You can wear a suit and tie and still look professional, or take it cross country on a tour and it still fits

I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.

I'd find out where the advertise their trail rides and set out a few minutes ahead of them. Just be sitting there waiting for them a little ways after the tough part, snacking on lunch. Or show up a little later and wait til they clog the trail with an axle coming unclipped and sliding out, then lay on the horn until they move so you can pass.

FWIW, the only club I'm a part of is the local VW club. As an actual club with dues and everything, we HAVE to have a list of members and non-members just because of insurance reasons. The club carries an annual insurance policy just incase something happens (wreck, fatality...etc) on a club event. This way, the person organizing the cruise/campout/whatever won't be held liable and the club's insurance steps in. With that said, our requirements are that you only have to have an interest in VWs; not own one and dues are cheap enough that its an "are you in or not" type of thing. A lot of the jeep clubs require that you own one to be a member. Dumb.

Sadly there are bad seeds in every crowd, tho the Zoo crowd has always been a welcoming bunch. Most of my experiences with sport bike riders have been bad. Always left with the opinion they owned the road and had zero regard for speed limits. First bike I road was a Harley, road my Uncle's 68 police cruiser I was the man in the neighborhood that day. I own two Harleys today because that is what I like. Plus I look like a monkey f'ing a football ridining a crotch rocket. Let that to be the last image you see when you go to sleep to night....

Own a CJ8.... OK work in progress...

I've always said to drive/ride what you want and enjoy it to what ever degree you want. I am sure people have had bad experiences with Zoo owners. I just dont want to be the guy that makes people say all Zoo owners are jerks. Wanna wheel with me in a Sami, a Yota, a whatever ... fine by me.... bring a sammich and lets roll....

    Just my 2 cents.....

Swede, when I saw your RS in person, I never thought twice about it, it was just another old Trooper to me at the time. I was definitely VX snooty. Now that I know a helluva lot more aout Zus, your RS is awesome!!! (Even if I have one that looks just like it )

Nope, I don't have a problem with Jeeps except they are boring, its the Jeep Thing I have a problem with. A club for some specific activity that is not welcoming to others who do the same activity, especially one as exclusive and requiring as much hard work and dedication as offroading, is just nuts! Not to mention poor networking, with a plasma cutter and welder, I would have been a great asset to all those guys with their JC Whitney wranglers.

Yup! Hand over your VX keys right now!

Just kidding ... but you do need to change your forum handle (it's just a slap in the face everytime that you post sump'n) ... still kidding.

If your love for your Jeep & your love for your VX develops into a bipolar disorder though, I'm sure that I could convince Boy to take over the payments on your VX.

I live in Humboldt Park , for some reason the community here loves their Jeep. I found it its a big thing in Puerto Rico. They hold their saturday meets during warmer weather across the street, and every summer day you add the harleys and the Import bikers roaring down the street. (my neighbor is the community cultural center).

All i ever get is people asking me about the VX and offering to buy it on the spot.

Not because It has the Jeep bolt ons that look like Lara crofts joyride, but just because they do not understand the truck, hence the exclusivity value of it.

I dont even want to trail the truck (chicago is fairly flat), i want an urban warrior. And i really respect a lot of folks here who do not garage queen their rigs.

FWIW, I like the idea of Jeeps, but believe it to be a bit inflated due to the marketing. I seen the cherokees and liberty folks get more crap because they bought a "prissy" jeep. Even knowing they have the same abilities.
