Gear How much would you pay for a 4.77/4.88?

So.. I found a pretty cool site where you can buy those hard to come by differentials.

    http://www.heavytruckparts.net/detai...rchnum=6011884

Only thing is... I'm not sure if $4700 with a $2800 core charge is the best for a front diff... The rear 4.88 diff is $1000. Tell me. Is it all worth it? Can't I just get a 4.88 ring and pinion?

That appears to be from a "heavy truck" of some sort(if the pic is of actual part)

That's NOT what our R/P looks like...WAY big.

    IIRC, I paid about $850 for both F & R.

Many of these differentials don't show pics... So I guess they're all too big then.

You can find many gearing options for Isuzu NPR box trucks. I'm guessing these gears are made for those axles.

and you should be able to get a pair of 4.77s for under $1000... or $850 if you find a deal like DUB.

If I could find a pair of 4.77s anywhere, I'd happily pay $1000. I'm getting all ramped up for my indy4x lift.

There was a trooper rs for sale for $900 someone posted on here. It "should" have 477s and you could probably make most of your $$$ back parting out the rest.

...thats the one I posted several days ago.
    $900 for the entire vehicle..and yes..should have 4:77's
especially as it had snowflake rims.
    It was a BARGAIN.

    I paid $1350 for a set of front / rear 4:77's...
    ...both with Aussie lockers.
    I also paid $750 for a front/rear set of 4:77's ..no lockers.

Haha, no I'm going to get a set of duratracs that are 32.6". When I put my stock wheel size vs the duratrac tire size into a diff gear calculator, 4.76 was the recommended gearing ratio that calculated out.

I would totally buy that right now... Only thing is I'm a few states away... If anybody else is interested in those wheels, I'll buy the trooper for the diffs if anybody close picks up the vehicle. Just ship the diffs to my place Then you can have the rest! Sound like a deal?

The last set I bought was $49 for each end. I had to pull them myself though. Imagine my delight when I saw that rs sitting at the pick and pull on half price day.

Yes that would keep you as close to stock as possible. I didn't really notice much difference in acceleration when I had 32.6" tires and stock gearing at CO elevation. Some difference but still very driveable...

You could always find 4.56 gearing easy and cheap. Then use the saved money for HD torsion bars or lockers.

Of course I might not be the best example since I still have stock gearing with 35s. 4.77s are too hard to find and my wish list is too long.

I found two '89 troopers, an '88, and an '86 on the pick-n-pull website just now. They're located 6 miles from my house.. I think I'll run by there this week to see if they have the differentials I'm looking for!

x2, mine are 34s, and I haven't really noticed too much difference. Ofcourse, I was only factory size for like 2 months when I bought the truck.
