Ironman hood emblem has come loose

    Hello,

My Ironman hood emblem has become loose due to the fact that several of the weldings that held it to the main hood got rusted. In the jpg I've uploaded, you can see how the welds came apart. How do I replace these or how dow I repair them? I've seen some of you adding hood inserts. What tools did you need and how did you do it?

The jpg can be accessed at https://picasaweb.google.com/1173775...31971082432418. I wasn't able to paste into the message.

All I really want is to weld these back. I had to put duct tape the emblem back to the hood because it came loose while driving down the freeway. I appreciate any information you can share with me.

    Thanks,

    Ed

Actually that's just your hood insert that has come loose, all models have that, it's not specific to the Ironman....but the "Ironman" DECAL is specific to the Ironman edition.

Those metal things have rusted and snapped off on many folks.

I think Tom4Bren devised some bolts or something to replace them.
Maybe he'll jump in here with more info (or whoever it was that re-did these metal fasteners. )

Or maybe use the Search bar for "hood insert studs", "hood insert rust", " or just "hood insert".... or something like that.
Look through the thread titles, you'll find one that addresses this.
(A really good reason to make Thread Titles descriptive and clear )

Here's what the hood insert looks like on the back:

CAN SEE THE STUD SNAPPED OFF/RUSTED OFF ON THIS ONE IN THE FRONT CORNER:

I had to repair one of these hood insert when I pulled our insert checking for rust... I cleaned both surfaces with light sandpaper and used two part epoxy (for Plastic) to reattach the mount. We have had no problem with the repair (done spring).

Under that hood insert you also have two drains in the corners, check those out also. You may need to clean out the drains and the 6 in tubing (we replaces tubes were pinched).

    Hope this helps...

Another option might be to hunt down some elevator bolts...those in the link are provided as an example...you will need to ferret out the proper length/thread dia...

T'wasn't me. Mine still has the passenger back corner held down with black RTV. I never found anything that I could use to replace the broken stud (but I didn't look real hard). If I can get out of work early enough one day this week, I'll stop by Fastenal to see if they have anything that'll work.

I rekin I could talk to Welder Guy about making a small run of something that would work for us.

Have him tack weld a fender washer to the above mentioned elevator bolts...
BAM...a fastener with a big enough footprint to be successfully epoxied to the insert...

Oh yeah...mebbe drill a few holes in the fender washer, for the adhesive of choice to spooge through...

Yes, we can't be forgettin the all important spooge-ing. Lack of an OEM proper spooge is probably what caused mine to fail.
