I just bought my Vehicross from a friend in Tasmania, and will pick up on the 21st, can't wait! Thinking about fitting big fat Maxxis Trepador tyres on her. Any Vehicross owners in Australia? I'm from Albury, NSW. Will.

Thanks VXjunky. your car is simply amazing.

"PK" is an active member here, he's in Hobart, Tasmania, has a '97.

Remember that life is not measured in the breaths you take, but rather in the moments that take your breath away.
Hi Will,
welcome to the VX world.
I guess you have bought the Austal silver one from Taroona.
That is the only other one I know of in Tasmania.
If I remember correctly, it was a bit of a garage queen, so should be a very good buy.
If you want to, send me a PM and we can arrange to meet up and have a coffee or something while you are down here.
I live in Bellerive.
Can't believe you stole that out from under my nose LOL.
I have Mickey Thompson tyres on mine, around 32" dia, and they only just fit.
Be careful if you try and go bigger, but there are some threads on here about tyre sizes and wheel specs.
Good luck.

Now that food has replaced sex in my life -
I can't even get into my own pants!!
Oh, and if it is the Taroona based one, the owner is also a member on here, just not very active.
PK
Dear PK, William, the bloke i bought from, will meet me in Melbourne, I sure would meet you for a coffee if I went to Tasmania! I'm counting the days to see it in person. He fitted some spacers on the wheels, I might resoray the original Wheels and fit the fat tyres, observing the legal overhanging limits. These threads are so helpful, I'll be sure to always keep in touch and will post photos as soon as I get mine![]()
Hi Will,
IIRC William F.... is the owner of the Taroona one, so you are getting a good vehicle as far as I know.
Pity you are not coming down, half the fun will be driving it home. Just watch the speedo until you get used to the car - these things like to accelerate.
Keep in touch if you need parts.
I have a few spares, and also some local info on what will fit.
Good luck.
Regards
Peter.
Hey PK, it'll be very useful to know where to find spare parts. I'm concerned about windshield, etc. I'm thinking about buying one and keeping in my garage, do you know where to find? Thanks.
Hmmmm, haven't sorted that one.
Holden Dealers and Isuzu D Max dealers won't help.
Not sure if Obriens or Novus would have anything.
If I break one, I will go back to the company that imported the VX in the first place. They advertise spare parts support for the cars they import.
I got their name off of the Import VIN plate.
Having said that, in 45 years of driving, I have never suffered a broken windscreen (touch wood).
When do you pick her up??
PK
Ill meet William in Melbourne on the 21st! You're right im being silly, I never had a
Broken windshield also. I'm sure I'll enjoy the car to the fullest, it's just so different
from everything out there, I love it! I had a Kawasaki Drifter that was an Indian look alike, and I saw a photo of one bike beside a vx online one day, and tried to find out what car was that, it was a Vx! Since then I looked for one to buy, sold my BMW and bought this one from Tasmania! Im a very happy camper right now!
this photo started everything! i had the same bike and fell in love with the VX:

Yep, that was owned by Crotchrocket in the UK.
He used to wheel it offroad a lot - check out his gallery for the VX being driven underground in some caves in France.
He has since sold the VX and joined the UK darkside - Landrover.
He still visits occasionally. You could send him a PM about the bike if you want to.
Good luck on the 21st.
There is alot of talk on here about burning engine oil, and checking your oil at every fill up. I suggest you do that for the first 4 - 5 tanks, until you get an idea what your vehicle is doing. Some burn, some don't. Most of the 3.2L engines don't burn oil, but you can't be too careful.
I usually top up with 0.5 - 1 litre of oil once, near to the next oil change.
I change oil every 5000 km.
The VX rides very stiff if it has the OEM shockers in good condition. Takes a bit of getting used to. Some soften the ride a bit by replacing shocks or cutting bump stops. Depends on what floats your boat I guess - mine is perfect for me as standard.

Peter
