    No "L" gear

I just had my tranny swapped out not too long ago. I just randomly decided to put it in LOW or first gear for some random reason, but my shifter knob thing won't go past 2nd. It stops dead as if there is nothing past that. I didn't see anything about the "mode selector switch" having to do with this, but maybe I missed a thread...?

Everything drives fine, no noises, all the gears shift through correctly, and the car doesn't start off in 2nd gear....

Mebbe a buildup of cheerios in the console???

Sounds like a shifter linkage issue. Have you called the shop that did the swap?

Haha this has never been a family car lol. But I'm probably going to call the transmission shop later when they open and see what they say. I'm thinking I should have checked all the gears as soon as they gave it back to me.

Maybe it's one position off? Try putting it in neutral and see if that's OD?

All I can contribute is a warning. I was underneathmine once was fooling with the connection where the mode selector links to the trans. The trans _very easily- popped out of park into neutral. Lucky for me my drive has just a slight incline but I knew I was going to be a Human chock. I was out from under in a blur and the VX had rolled about 2feet before I could open the door and brake it. Lesson learned ALWAYS CHOCK. Did you read about Marlin 6 weeks ago ?

I actually read about yours and Marlin's little incidents. I don't know enough about the drivetrain to be messing with that stuff though. I wouldn't know what I was doing.

Any other ideas on this? Could this be a misadjusted shift linkage or something underneath? I'm not exactly sure how to check something like that.

I called the shop and they denied anything, but I fixed it! I had a friend get in the car and move the shifter from park to 2nd and all the gears in between while I laid underneath (yes, I took measures to make sure it would not roll onto me lol) and watched the linkage move on the driver's side of the tranny. There is a small flap of metal that functions as some sort of guard/heat shield for some wiring harness right next the the shift linkage, and at some point during the swap or pull, the tranny shop had bent it up to where it just blocked the linkage when it got to the "L" position. I just got a metal bar long enough to reach it and bent it back out of the way where it belong and it works fine again! Whew! Such a relief. I'm tired of tranny problems lol. Thanks for all the tips though guys!

glad to hear it was a simple fix... but i must say the tranny shop u took it to, must have terrible customer relations.... "they were not responsible when flex plat broke"... and know u have given them i am sure thousands of dollars and u have another tranny problem and without even looking at they say not there fault... weak... weak i personally would let them know and not give them any more of my business

    just my 2 cents

It's doubtful I will lol. But then again, I've had quite the bad string of luck with vehicles this summer. The reason I got a VX is because the crank pully fell off my Subaru...TWICE in the matter of like 2 months and the 2nd time, the bolt snapped off in the crank and they couldn't get it out. The engine had to be rebuilt. Too expensive. So I bought the VX lol. Which became a money pit, but now things seem to be going smoothly. Lord willing it'll keep going okay for a while till I get her paid off lol.

Good job fixing your problem. Nothing beats that satisfaction that you did it yourself and it didn't cost you a penny.
