The thing is, I do too, and have never discouraged anyone from doing so, but that generally seems to be conveniently misinterpreted/ignored by some. My problem has been with those who get so wrapped up in listening to themselves trying to make themselves look good by making others look bad...they simply forget to listen.
One of the main reasons usually given in these discussions is that $$ donated to this site is more than made up for when questions are asked, knowledge is gained, and money is then saved on VX repairs. Well not being the type who generally blasts his own horn, I don't mention it much, but I consider myself one of the people on this site capable of effectively answering some of those questions, and my giving back comes in the form of volunteering the time and effort necessary to at least research, diagnose, and suggest possible fixes. I know my answers don't always hit upon the exact causes of the problems being described, but that's the nature of trying to make remote automotive repairs.
Simply put, I don't come here to deliberately insult anyone, but I also don't come here to be deliberately insulted, especially when I'm actually trying to contribute to an environment that will make potential new members comfortable enough to feel that they can actually ask a question with no fear of being ridiculed for simply asking those questions, and who knows, maybe then even hang around until they learn enough to start answering a few questions themselves. What's not to "get"?
