When I did mine, I cut holes in the headliner (which would be covered by the overhead) big enough to get my fingers through. Then glued 2" pieces of 1/4" plywood to the top side of the headliner, above where the mounting points are.

A much easier alternative to removing the whole headliner for those contemplating this mod.

Its true that is the easyest way to go , but my headliner panel has been removed already ... at the same time i did the sound dampening on my vx and installed the 2 tweeter's... The overhead consol is mounted with 6 screw (2mm diamter) to the car body .
