Burning smell worries me
I have had both problems my problem was clogged injectors tho and now it is fixed i just sent all of the injectors off and got them cleaned also throw some fuel injector cleaner in see if that helps a little its like 3.99 at autozone.
Also tap on the fuel rails to help unclog them. Might also check your plugs. Also since there was a "burn" smell check the wiring going to the plugs to make sure they are okay (especially the ones going to cylinder 4).

Burning smell - too much unburnt fuel into cat converter - overheating/melting cats may be. Mine was dead coil on cyl#6
Thanks
I got new plugs and I am going to swap the coils on cylinders 2 and 4 to see if anything changes while changing the plugs.
Hopefully will not take to long its cold out
Steve
If you've never changed the plugs on the VX before the wells are deep!
I found it helpful to use a piece of vaccum hose about 12" long to get the plugs started. Just put it on the end and lower the plug into the well and twist to get the plug started. Keeps you from dropping them into the well and upsetting the gap. Of course if you have a magnetic plug socket that works great too...![]()
