Auto (4wd high) How many lights on normal conitions

    Hello all,

I think my 4wd is kicking in when it shouldn't be. While driving on dry road conditions. The 1st 2 lights ( 4wd display, front wheel lights) are comming on. Shouldn't the only lights on be the rear wheel lights and the word (AUTO) unless the there is tire spin???? Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Yup, after 5-10mph (can't remember) some power gets transfered up front so 1 light should light up

A little bit of torque is sent to the front after you exceed 5(?) MPH so the 1st stage of lights on the front wheels should be lit. I've been told that "all" 4WD vehicles work that way (but I'm new to all this so what do I know?)

No light = 0-15% of the torque going to the front
    1st stage = 15-30%
    2nd stage = 30-50%
    3rd stage = 50%

The only problem with that explanation is that it describes the transfer of % power to the front via pressure applied to the clutches in the transfer case.

IIRC, the amount of torque sent to the front is actually controlled by pulsing the clutches.

    Am I mis-remembering?

I am not sure how it works

but I always get front lighting up upon accelerating from a stop. It is not 4 wheel as much as all wheel from what I have read.

And when you slow back down below that level they go back out so that only the rear wheel lights are on. You should also feel the slight sensation of the transfer case disengaging beneath you.
