Well this sucks... engine craps out on me

Oh man, very sorry to hear that. How many miles did it have on it? What other details? Maybe it was the timing belt or something

101,xxx all i can do is go 2.5k rpms and it bogs really bad when i go farther then you hear TINK TINK TINK knock knock knock in the engine bay it really scares me.... WHAT A GREAT FLIPPING CHRISTMAS FOR ME...

Hate to hear this....weird, there's been a cluster of these the past few weeks, maybe 4, how weird. Well at least you got it for free, makes you way ahead of the game compared to the others that had this happen. If you don't repair/replace the engine, maybe you can do well parting it out?

yea that is true if i do desire to get a new vehicle i will let you guys know if i am parting out my truck or rebuilding the engine but for a free truck it has treated me well and ive done the same for it i love this vx but i hope i can get it back running untill i get it running again i get to drive my dad's 1971 caddilac eldorado with a 504 big block gas guzzler fun fun its fully restored we have over 30k in restoring that car it has broke us.,..

Dunno if it has any relation but I'm wondering if the colder weather had any effect on it.. I have noticed since the cold weather started here my vx has been burning oil much faster.. Even got to the "add" line the other day which has never happened to me before. I do feel like I've been having to give a bit more throttle for the same drive.. And gas mileage has gone from 17 to 15

Also went down considerably.

Even driving around without been mean on the gas pedal ain't help that much and with the gas rolling above the $ 3.25 here in NYC is a bad combination for the wallet

This is why I have 5 quarts of oil already packed in the Axiom for our trip to Wisconsin. Stories like this scare me to death that I'll hear the dreaded ping in the middle of nowhere when it's sub-zero out...
