auxiliary miror?

what is that thing that some vx's have near the drivers headlight.
it sticks up like a miror but ive never seen a pic of it from the other side.
An auxiliary miror?

If I remember correctly, it's a curb mirror to aid in parking.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Passenger is on "our" driver's side.
