How many miles on the VX, and how long since the transmission filter has been changed? (Or is that what you meant in the original post when you said "transfer case"?)

Might be a longshot, but a clogged filter can effect the fluid flow through a transmission, regardless of whether the fluid is new or not. And it wouldn't be that time consuming or expensive to at least try first before starting to remove and replace the whole trans-x.
