Transmission sliping in reverse.

how did you check the fluid level? when my transmission fluid gets low, i get a lot of hesitation and clunking in reverse, like i shift and nothing happens for a solid 2 seconds. to check trans fluid make sure the vehicle is running for 5 minutes or so and that you have cycled through all of the gears once or twice.

I used Dex III here in Hawaii and in Seattle.
I checked and checked and checked the fluid level.
It was hot to the touch and I was worried about getting burned the last time.
I pulled the plug, jumped in the rig and ran it thru all the gears several times while parked. I pumped it so full it was pouring out, prob the whole last quart I put in came back out and it was way more than warm fluid running down my arm while I replaced the bolt.
But yeah the reverse is slow to engage, it has been as long as Ive owned the rig so it makes me think its been on its way out for a while. I have always had to wait to make sure before applying any gas for reverse but in drive it jumps right into gear and is tugging on the brakes.

AFAIK (and I am no expert) to change the belts in the tranny you have to drop the tranny. The parts are the cheap part of the rebuild and if they have it apart you might as well have them replace all the wearable parts (bands, clutches, etc.)...someone correct me if I am wrong.
